Just Out Of Reach
Sonny James Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Just out of reach of my two open arms)
Dreams you steal away from me dreams that just won't let me be
Blues that keep on haunting me chains that just won't set me free
So far away from you and all your charms just out of reach of my two open arms
Each night in dreams I see your face mem'ries time cannot erase
Then I awake and find you gone I'm so blue and all alone
So far away from lips so sweet and warm just out of reach of my two open arms
[ guitar ]
So far away from you and all your charms just out of reach of my two open arms

Overall Meaning

The song "Just Out of Reach" by Sonny James is a ballad about a love that is just out of reach. The lyrics describe the singer's yearning for his lover's embrace, but despite his efforts, she remains distant. The song speaks to the universal emotion of longing for someone who is just beyond your grasp.

The first line, "Just out of reach of my two open arms," sets the tone for the rest of the song. The singer is physically and emotionally reaching out for his loved one, but finds himself unable to make the connection. He is haunted by memories of her, but when he wakes up, he is alone and filled with longing.

The lyrics also describe the chains of the past, which are preventing the singer from moving on. He is stuck in a cycle of memories and longing, unable to find the freedom he needs to move forward. The song ends with the singer acknowledging his distance from his lover's charms, still just out of reach.

nice voice for sure but he made the song sound like a cowboy song of old. Its not smooth and moody, ya know what I mean? Still I miss the pure voices and lyrics that actually mean something and that you can actually make out what's being said.

Great song by Sonny! But does anybody else besides me hear Elvis in his early tunes?  Elvis once said Sonny James was his favorite country singer. So who was copying who?
