seasons
Soundgarden Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Summer nights and long warm days
Are stolen as the old moon falls
And the mirror shows another face
Another place to hide it all
Another place to hide it all

And I'm lost behind
In the words I'll never find
And I'm left behind
As the seasons roll on by

Sleeping with a full moon blanket
Sand and feathers for my head
Dreams have never been the answer
Dreams have never made my bed

And I'm lost behind
In the words I'll never find
And I'm left behind
As the seasons roll on by

Well I wanna fly above the storm
But you can't dry feathers in the rain
And the naked floor is cold as hell
The naked floor reminds me
The naked floor reminds me

That I'm lost behind
In the words I'll never find
And I'm left behind
As the seasons roll on by

If I should be short on words
And long on things to say
Could you crawl into my world
And take me worlds away
Should I be beside myself
Never leave or stay

And I'm lost behind
In the words I'll never find

And I'm left behind
As the seasons roll on by

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Soundgarden's song "Seasons" describe a sense of disillusionment and being lost in a changing world. The opening lines reference the passing of time and the changing of the seasons, as the summer nights and warm days are stolen away by the old moon falling. The use of the word "stolen" implies a sense of loss or the idea that time is slipping away. The second half of the verse talks about hiding, indicating a desire to escape or avoid confronting the changes that are happening.

The second verse describes the singer sleeping with a full moon blanket and sand and feathers for their head. The image of the full moon and natural elements like sand and feathers suggest a connection with nature and a desire for escape. However, the reference to dreams not being the answer implies that the singer has not found solace in dreaming or escaping reality. The following lines continue the theme of being lost and left behind, with the singer expressing a desire to fly above the storm but feeling like they are unable to escape the bleak reality they find themselves in.

The final verse adds a layer of vulnerability to the lyrics, with the singer asking for someone to crawl into their world and take them away. The idea of being "beside myself" suggests a sense of disconnection from one's own emotions or identity. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, emphasizing the feeling of being lost and left behind as time passes.

@heatheraucoin5832

I played this song for my son, in the delivery room a month after Chris Cornell passed and I just wanted my son ears to hear the first thing entering this world was this song. It quiet him down. I still cry when the lyrics;
If I should be short on words
And long on things to say
Could you crawl into my world
And take me worlds away
Should I be beside myself
And not even stay
It’s so beautiful and sad bc I ( we the fans, friends, and family) wish he would have stayed.
We miss you and will always love you. I’m just glad he existed and left behind his beautiful gifts to the world for many generations to see/ hear
