In late 2008, the three-piece added a fourth member and began writing for a full-length. The band and songs had evolved and taken on a new life to a point where a name-change seemed necessary. They decided on Spanish Gamble as their new chosen name and drew a line between their past and the future. Their influences are eclectic, yet their sound is cohesive. While the members are not all Gainesville natives, they fit in nicely with the scene of gruff and catchy music found in the southern punk mecca.
However, it is not to say that they are just another punk band from Gainesville. They have spent a considerable amount of time demoing new songs for their upcoming record with Roger from Less Than Jake and will be venturing out to Oakland, CA to record with Ryan Massey of American Steel in his Sharkbite Studios. The album is to be called “It’s All Coming Down” and much of the lyrical content has to do with finding a sense of purpose in the world. This time around the songs are tighter and more collaborative.
One might be hard-pressed to recognize these young men as the same Dirty Money that slept on your floor just a couple of short years ago. Well they’re not. They are Spanish Gamble, and they’re focused, they’re tight, and these new songs will surely blow you away. The bands ability to at once be catchy and stray away from formulas has created a dynamic combination of excellent sonic qualities. Expect the band to be on the road relentlessly once the album is released and get ready to sing along.
Four Letter Word
Spanish Gamble Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
So what's the point of trying?
You're not fooling anybody here
So what's the use in lying?
Compromise
All you talk about is compromise
It's starting to make me sick
Just come clean with yourself
And it's time
To face
The real you
And if you asked me
I would say it's time to let it go
This shit is getting old
And I don't know how much anyone can take
Compromise
All you talk about is compromise
It's starting to make me sick
You can only hide inside for so long
Just come clean with yourself
I won't be the one who's there to catch your fall
I can't be the one who has to watch you fall
I won't be the one who's there to catch your fall
I can't be the one who has to watch you fall
It's time
Time to face
The real you
The song "Four Letter Word" by Spanish Gamble discusses self-discovery and self-deception. In the first verse, the lyrics express that no matter how hard you try to hide from yourself, you can never run away from who you really are. The second verse, on the other hand, speaks about the futile efforts of lying and pretending to others, for they won't fall for your deception. The chorus emphasizes the importance of facing your true self, rather than compromising or hiding any longer.
The lyrics then offer a reminder about the consequences of refusing to confront the truth. The singer refuses to witness the person they care for fall apart and suggests it's time to admit the truth and let go of the charade.
In conclusion, "Four Letter Word" is a song about self-discovery, transparency, and the cost of self-deception. The lyrics encourage listeners to face their true selves and be transparent, rather than living a life based on compromise.
