Walk The Plank
Spoons Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
She slipped out of the mist one
Morning we stayed well out of view
For fear of spoiling our
Position and there were many
Times when we were sure
We'd lost her forever
But then she'd appear again, her
The mist that first brought her
Walk the plank
Walk the plank with me
Walk the plank
Walk the plank with me again
I'm not yet giving in
I'm only probing all the options
I sense their appetite
The crew await a firm decision
But I play a waiting game
There will be other nights
Like this one
And then we'll cross her bows and take
For us what has always been rightfully ours
Walk the plank
Walk the plank with me
Walk the plank
Walk the plank with me again
The lyrics of Spoons' "Walk The Plank" tell the story of a ship's crew that is on the hunt for another ship, which they suspect has valuable cargo. They have been following her for weeks through the misty seas, staying out of sight to avoid being spotted. They have had moments of doubt when they thought they had lost her forever, but she always appeared again, restocked and ready for their next encounter. The crew is determined to seize the valuable cargo, even if it means resorting to violence and making those aboard Walk The Plank.
The song seems to be a metaphorical representation of a person's hunt for success or their desires. The lyrics paint the picture of someone who is determined to get what they want, even if it means going through great lengths to achieve it, like the ship's crew. They are aware that there will be many times when the journey for success gets challenging, and they may feel like it's impossible to find the way forward, but they keep seeing glimmers of hope and steady progress. There is excitement and anticipation in the air, with a little bit of fear of what might happen. The final lines of the song are, "Walk the plank with me again," which suggests a willingness to undertake this journey time and again, no matter what challenges lay ahead.
