Very early on, Stéphane was fascinated by different kinds of music, listening to pop, rock and new wave. The real trigger happened in the late 80s, when he discovered house. One day in 1997 in Paris, when he was already a fairly famous DJ, he met up with Jean-Louis Costes, who asked him to mix music at his hotel restaurant. Very soon they had the idea of a compilation which could spread worldwide the spirit of the Hôtel Costes, this mythic glamorous place. The first compilation quickly became an undeniable reference. Over a dozen more successful and intense compilations followed.
Then he was asked to deejay everywhere in the world by haute couture designers such as Gucci, actresses like Cameron Diaz, and eventually remixed "What It Feels Like for a Girl" for Madonna… Yet Stéphane Pompougnac is not only a DJ - he is also an accomplished musician, composing and producing his own songs, which he proved in 2003 with the release of his first album Living On The Edge that featured several talented artists, notably Michael Stipe from REM. Today, Stéphane Pompougnac remains one of the most recognized DJs in the world.
Pompougnac released his second album Hello Mademoiselle in early 2006 after his eighth Hôtel Costes compilation.

Crave You
Stéphane Pompougnac Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
They stare at me while I stare at you
Why can't I keep you safe as my own?
One moment I have you the next you are gone
Rehearsed steps on an empty stage
That boy's got my heart in a silver cage
Why can't you want me like the other boys do?
They stare at me while I crave you
I walked into the room dripping in gold
Yeah dripping in gold
I walked into the room dripping in gold
Dripping in gold
A wave of heads did turn, or so I've been told
Or so I've been told
My heart broke when I saw you kept your gaze controlled
Oh I cannot solve
Why can't you want me like the other boys do?
They stare at me while I stare at you
Why can't I keep you safe as my own?
One moment I have you the next you are gone
Rehearsed steps on an empty stage
That boy's got my heart in a silver cage
Why can't you want me like the other boys do?
They stare at me while I crave you
It's true I crave you
Crave you
It's true I crave you
Let's just stop and think, before I lose face
Surely I can't fall, into a game of chase
Around his little finger, that boy has got me curled
I try to reach out, but he's in his own world
This boy's got my head tied in knots with all his games
I simply want him more because he looks the other way
Why can't you want me like the other boys do?
They stare at me while I stare at you
Why can't I keep you safe as my own?
One moment I have you the next you are gone
Rehearsed steps on an empty stage
That boy's got my heart in a silver cage
Why can't you want me like the other boys do?
They stare at me while I crave you
I am craving you
The lyrics to "Crave You" by Stéphane Pompougnac are about unrequited love and the struggle of wanting someone who doesn't want you back in the same way. The singer asks why the person they desire can't want them like the other boys do, and is frustrated that they only stare while the singer is left wanting more. The singer wants to keep the object of their affection safe, but the next moment they are gone. The lyrics suggest a feeling of being stuck in a cycle, trying to reach out but unable to break out of the silver cage that holds their heart.
The second verse describes the singer's entrance into a room, where heads turn and all eyes are on them. But even in this moment of attention, the singer's heart breaks when they see the person they desire keeping their gaze controlled. The singer is left to wonder why they can't be wanted like other boys, and why they can't have what they crave. The bridge suggests a sense of trying to maintain control, but the boy's games have tied the singer's head in knots. Even though the person they desire looks the other way, the singer only wants them more.
Overall, the lyrics of "Crave You" express the pain and frustration of wanting someone who doesn't reciprocate those feelings. The singer is left with a feeling of being trapped, unable to escape the pull of their desire for this person who will not want them in the same way.
