Clark joined Sufjan Stevens' touring band in 2006, bringing with her a tour EP entitled Paris Is Burning. It contains three tracks, including a cover version of Jackson Browne's These Days.
Clark released her début album, Marry Me, 10 July 2007 on Beggars Banquet Records. Named after a line from the cult-hit television show Arrested Development, the LP features appearances from drummer Brian Teasley (Man or Astro-man?, The Polyphonic Spree), Mike Garson (David Bowie's longtime pianist), and horn player Louis Schwadron (The Polyphonic Spree).
In 2008 Clark was nominated for three PLUG Independent Music Awards: New Artist of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, and Music Video of the Year, and on 6 March 2008, she won the Female Artist of the Year award.
Her second album for 4AD, entitled Actor, was released on 5 May 2009. It was written entirely by Clark and produced by Clark and John Congleton of The Paper Chase.
The Strange Mercy Songfacts reports that Clark wrote her third album in Seattle. She decamped to the Northwestern city to escape from the information overload she was experiencing at home and recorded Strange Mercy in a studio provided by Death Cab For Cutie drummer Jason McGerr. The album was released by 4AD on September 12, 2011 and peaked at #19 on the Billboard 200, making it her first Top 20 LP.

St. Vincent Lyrics

But somebody told me that You were A friend
But I know that you'll be coming Towards my life
So take my hand and we'll go for a Ride
Cause I'll see you again, I'll see you Again well I'll see you again Someday
Well I don't know how to cook and Make the dishes white
But I told you that I couldn't see the Day
Somebody told me that to put you in Your place you have to run around The stage
To be in another love you sea
Wasn't the plan in store for me now You see
Somebody told me
Somebody told me that you'd be there tonight
Somebody told me
Somebody told me that you'd be there tonight
Now, take my hand and we'll go for The ride cause I need you to be right Here by my side
When the sun has Set it's face against the sea well in Your heart I'll always wish to be
The lyrics to St. Vincent's song "Someday" appear to speak about a connection or friendship that is somewhat uncertain and elusive. The opening lines suggest that the singer is aware of the presence of the other person, but there seems to be some confusion regarding their relationship. The reference to being told that the other person is a friend implies a lack of personal knowledge or familiarity.
However, despite this uncertainty, there is a sense of anticipation and longing. The singer acknowledges that the other person will be entering their life and invites them to take their hand and embark on a journey together. The repetition of "I'll see you again" reflects the hope that this meeting will happen, emphasizing the longing for connection and the desire for a reunion.
The second paragraph introduces additional uncertainty, expressing a lack of culinary skills and a sense of vulnerability. The line about running around the stage can be interpreted as a metaphor for trying to impress or win someone over, potentially reflecting the singer's fear of not being good enough. Nevertheless, there is a strong belief in a mutual attraction, and the singer asserts that the other person is the one they want to be with.
Overall, the lyrics of "Someday" convey a sense of longing, uncertainty, and anticipation for a connection that seems destined to happen. It explores themes of vulnerability, the search for love, and the desire to be close to someone.
