Break
Staind Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Misery
And company it keeps
Is for me
All these things
We keep repeating

Like a wheel
That keeps turning
If I could break away
From this moment
Break away
What is real
Break away
Never showing
Break away
How I feel
If I could break away

Apathy
The ignorance it brings
The tragedy
Of all these things
We keep repeating

Like a wheel
That keeps turning
If I could break away
From this moment
Break away
What is real
Break away
Never showing
Break away
How I feel
If I could break away

Break away
If I could break away
Just break away
If I could break away
From this moment
Break away
What is real
Break away
Never showing
Break away
How I feel
If I could break away

If I could break away
If I could break away

Overall Meaning

In the song "Break", Staind's frontman Aaron Lewis reflects on the cycle of unhappiness that people can find themselves in. The first verse begins with the line "Misery and company it keeps, is for me." Here, he is acknowledging that sometimes people can get stuck in unhappy patterns, and it can feel like misery is the only company they have. He goes on to say that these patterns are things that we repeat, like a wheel that keeps turning. The chorus is a plea to break away from this cycle and to find something real, never again living a life where he doesn't show how he really feels.

The second verse starts with the word "apathy", which means a lack of interest or emotion. Here, Aaron is reflecting on how this apathy and ignorance can bring tragedy, and again expressing the thought that we can find ourselves repeating these patterns of unhappiness. The song ends with the repeated chorus, which emphasizes the desire to break away from these cycles and find something real.

Overall, the song is a call to break out of these patterns and find a way to truly connect with the world and other people. It speaks to the sense of feeling trapped in a cycle of unhappiness and the desire to break free from that.

I walk alone
I am alone
I think alone
I'll die alone
Don't think I can make it on my own
I think I need someone to save me!
Such is life
So sad but true
Kill everything
That's close to you
Try to decide what not to do
You know you cannot control me!
I don't see the point in
Going any further
Than we've gone already
Can't keep my hands steady
Sadness
Everyday for me
You can't
Take that away from me
All these fuckin' thoughts inside my head
Are almost more than I can take
You push and pull on me
Your gonna keep pushin'
Till I break
You think you control me
Have no chains to hold me
Only thing that saves me
Voices just might kill me
Sadness
Everyday for me
You can't
Take that away from me
All these fuckin' thoughts inside my head
Are almost more than I can take
You push and pull on me
Your gonna keep pushin'

Staind didn't go "mainstream". Aaron Lewis just isn't a pissed off rebel anymore. He's got a family and has nothing to be pissed off about. He writes what's in his heart, and to me that's the truest form of music.

Eddie J. Hagmaier

He went from being young depressed angry and addicted to being clean and happier with his life, staind saved arron Lewis

Andre Luiz

One of those Staind/rock songs that makes you want to get up and just start dancing and having fun. Such a catchy/underrated beat/song. If I heard this today in a public area like a bar, bowling alley, or hotel lobby, rest assured I would get up and dance. No questions asked.

Andre Luiz

@DRAKEnN342 i think hes being ironic

DRAKEnN342

Dancing wouldn't exactly describe the movements this makes me want to do.
