In 2000, after living in New Hampshire, he moved back down to Massachusetts to enroll in the audio production program at Boston's New England Institute of the Arts. That same year, Selektah started putting out mixtapes, namely his Spell My Name Right series. With his mixtapes and DJ gigs, Selektah never passed up the opportunity to champion local hip-hop from Boston and the surrounding New England area. In particular, Selektah was responsible for introducing fellow Lawrence, MA, native Termanology to the world, helming his Hood Politics mixtapes in the mid- to late 2000s. Managing all of these tasks became much easier when he established in 2003 his own PR/marketing firm ShowOff.
In 2006, he turned ShowOff Records into an official record label, with Termanology & Producer DC's Out the Gate LP as its first release. By this time, though, Selektah's prestige had grown considerably. His radio shows were playing in several places, from London to Mobile, AL; he produced beats for many artists, including Foxy Brown, AZ, and Joell Ortiz; and most importantly, the DJ dished out tons of mixtapes with big name and up-and-coming artists, such as Nas, Q-Tip, John Legend, Royce da 5'9" (The Bar Exam, co-hosted with DJ Premier), and Saigon.
Statik dropped his first LP, Spell My Name Right in 2007, and his follow up Stick 2 the Script album in 2008. Other artists he has produced for following that include Talib Kweli, Bun B, Styles P, Consequence, Freeway, M.O.P., and Jadakiss. Rockstar games reached out for Statik in late 2008 to enlist him as DJ and producer of the Grand Theft Auto IV update "the Lost and Damned", as well as 2 songs for Midnight Club: Los Angeles.
In March 2008, Selektah and Saigon recorded All In A Day's Work in a 24 hour period, and was acclaimed by critics. He also DJed for Q-tip on his 2009 Renassaince World Tour. Statik just dropped his third studio album, 100 Proof: The Hangover on Showoff/Brick Records.
In 2010 Statik Selektah released his fourth album, Population Control, on Duck Down Records to critical acclaim boasting features from a mix of up and coming MC's and well established veterans.
Statik's fifth album, Extended Play, was released on June 18, 2013, and features Joey Bada$$, Action Bronson, Raekwon, Sean Price, Mac Miller, Black Thought, Noreaga, Lecrae, Lil' Fame, Styles P, Mike Posner, Termanology, Freddie Gibbs, Bun B, Joell Ortiz, Posdnuos of De La Soul, Talib Kweli, Troy Ave., Hit-Boy, Smif-N-Wessun, Flatbush Zombies, and many many more.

And everything wasn't really what it seemed?
What if everything you ever wished for was in reach (reach)
And you could learn everything your school didn't teach? (teach)
Wouldn't it be nice if the banks didn't fuck up the loans
And people ain't have to move out they homes? (homes)
With no GM or AIG
And for that matter no cancer or A-I-D
That the world I'm talkin about is where we would like to be (be)
Worried about debts, recessions and foreclosure
Too much stress, somebody pass me the doja (the doja baby)
So I could just float (float)
And not have to worry about payin my car note (note)
But once the smoke clears, you right back where you was
But it's still cool just to dream man because
I'm high for sleep, I'm high for work (I'm high for work)
It always seems so real, then fades away (away)
I know I sold my soul, I [?]
I guess these major deals ain't all they seem
Not quite what I was (dreamin of)
One world, one heart (not quite what I was dreamin of)
So close, so far (not quite what I was dreamin of)
No tears, no scars (not quite what I was dreamin of)
We're so close, so far (not quite what I was dreamin of)
I need more than sixteen, Stat'
We was lookin for change 'til Barack came
Sooner lookin for change but these rocks ain't
Movin, eyelids low cause my bills too high
And my kids growin quick and my lady's growin tired
So my outlook's dim and my house is eventually without any heat
Unless it's comin out of me
See, wages is minimum
The race that I run feels Usain quick and I'm in ankle weights and Timberlands
Life's tryin to lap you
Them hustlers fast but life is a three course meal, let them fast foods
Have it for now
Quick money never stays, get your money, stay patient, outlast it for now
Before I lay down, I thank God for the blessings
Every bit of success, as well as my imperfections
Cause ain't nobody perfect, everybody searchin
For happiness, we livin like every day's urgent
Every day's harder, ain't nothin here promised
To live as Will Smith, you must endure the Chris Gardners
Wale, we good
Dreamin on a lullaby
The song "So Close So Far" by Statik Selektah is about dreaming of a better life, a life where things are easier, more attainable, and far less stressful. The song begins by asking whether life could be like a dream, where everything is easily within reach, and there are no barriers to achieving our goals. The lyrics suggest that in a dream, everything is possible, and we can learn everything we were never taught in school. The lyrics also touch on the global financial meltdown that occurred in the late 2000s, expressing a desire for a world without banks that don't make mistakes and where people don't have to leave their homes. There is a hope for a world without the tragedies of cancer and AIDS, where we can all be happy, stress-free and not worry about debts, recessions or foreclosures.
The song then goes on to talk about the harsh realities of life, where despite our dreams, we still have to face the struggles of life. Statik reflects on his own life, where despite his success as a rapper, he still faces financial struggles; his bills keep piling up, and his house is eventually going to be without heat. He also reflects on the challenges of being a father and a man, where he has to continuously strive to provide and take care of his family. Nevertheless, he still finds joy in his imperfections and successes, acknowledging that perfection is unattainable and that everyone is looking for happiness, which is why we must all endure the challenges of life.
Overall, "So Close So Far" is a reflective song that deals with some significant life issues, from the global financial meltdown to the individual struggles faced by individuals. The lyrics express the desire for a better world and a better life, where people can be happy and free from daily struggles. The song also acknowledges that such a world is not attainable, but we must keep hope alive and keep pushing towards our goals.
