Shut Eye
Stealing Sheep Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You should've got a better bed
Better for your head
Better heads need shut eye

You should've got a better bed
Better for your head
Better heads need shut eye
You should've got out of the red
In the red you're better off dead
Deader than the red dead sea
Promise it to me
Promise me the sea

You should've got a better bed
Better for your head
Better heads need shut eye
You should've got out of the red
In the red you're better off dead
Deader than the red dead sea
Promise it to me
Promise me the sea

People all the people with big bellies banging bigger drums
They beat down on you they beat the pulse into your shoes
Shoes that are made for walking you to lands and other seas
See those seas of see those seas that you've seen on the big screen

You should've got a better bed
Better for your head
Better heads need shut eye
You should've got out of the red
In the red you're better off dead
Deader than the red dead sea
Promise it to me
Promise me the sea

Sad hello's and mad high lows
Now i know not nobody knows
Sad hello's and mad high lows
Now i know not nobody knows
Where do we go?
Oh where do we go?

People all the people with big bellies banging bigger drums
They beat down on you they beat the pulse into your shoes
Shoes that are made for walking you to lands and other seas
See those seas of see those seas that you've seen on the big screen

People all the people with big bellies banging bigger drums
They beat down on you they beat the pulse into your shoes

Shoes that are made for walking you to lands and other seas
See those seas of see those seas that you've seen on the big screen

Overall Meaning

The song "Shut Eye" by Stealing Sheep is a lyrically complex and layered piece of music. The overarching theme of the song appears to revolve around the importance of rest and sleep for the human body and mind. The opening lyrics "You should've got a better bed, better for your head" seem to suggest that the singer is addressing someone who has not been getting proper sleep due to their poor sleeping conditions. The repetition of the phrase "Better heads need shut eye" highlights the idea that without proper rest, one's cognitive abilities can be severely compromised.

The idea of being "in the red" in the subsequent verse seems to refer to financial difficulties, with the lyrics suggesting that being in debt and struggling financially can have serious negative effects on mental health. The imagery in the line "Deader than the red dead sea" is particularly striking, with the comparison between a debt-ridden life and a lifeless sea emphasizing the bleakness of the situation. The repeated refrain of "Promise me the sea" is a plea for escape from the drudgery of everyday life, with the sea symbolizing a place of freedom and peace.

The song's chorus is particularly powerful, with the lyrics emphasizing that rest and sleep are essential for a healthy and fulfilled life. The second verse further emphasizes the idea of escape, with the repeated phrase "Where do we go? Oh where do we go?" highlighting the sense of disorientation and confusion that many people feel in their lives. Overall, the song is a poignant reminder of the importance of self-care, rest, and taking time to recover from the stresses of everyday life.

@alloy718

Tip for people trying to sing this:
1. Watch this until you have the rythem down
2. Speed it up 1.5 and try to sing it
3. Slow it back to normal (if it helps you can slow it down more)
4. Sing with normal speed and it will sound slow so it would be easier
5. If you think you got it down, put your device down and only look if you are having trouble memorizing it
6. Try it without looking at the lyrics at all!

Hope this helped someone!
Remember: This takes practice! It took me around 30 to 45 minutes!

P.S. if you came here from a tv show or something, tell me what you watched that led you here!
