The Unforgiven
Stefanie Heinzmann Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

New blood joins this earth
And quickly he's subdued
Through constant pained disgrace
The young boy learns their rules

With time the child draws in
This whipping boy done wrong
Deprived of all his thoughts
The young man strugggles on and on he's known
A vow unto his own
That never from this day
His will they'll take away-eay

Chorus

What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be
Never see
Won't see what might have been
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free
Never me
So I dub thee unforgiven

They dedicate their lives
To RUNING all of his
He tries to please them all
This bitter man he is
Throughout his life the same
He's battled constantly
This fight he cannot win
A tired man they see no longer cares
The old man then prepares
To die regretfully
That old man here is me

Chorus*2

Never Free
Never Me
So I dub thee unforgiven
You labeled me
I'll label you
So I dub thee unforgiven
Never Free
Never Me
So I dub thee unforgiven
You labeled me
I'll label you
So I dub thee unforgiven
Never Free

Never Me
So I dub thee unforgiven

Overall Meaning

Stefanie Heinzmann's song, "The Unforgiven," tells a story of a boy who is born into a world where he quickly becomes submissive to the rules laid out by others. He faces constant pain and disgrace as he tries to please everyone around him, but fails to be free or true to himself. The boy grows into a man who struggles as a whipping boy, deprived of his own thoughts and forced to battle consistently to meet the expectations of others. He takes a vow to never let anyone take away his will, but he is still labeled and judged by others. The song portrays the struggle of someone who feels trapped in a life they never asked for, and who is not allowed to be the person they were meant to be.

The lyrics of "The Unforgiven" expresses the truth about life in general. Sometimes, people can be born into a world of unfairness and injustice, where their freedom and individuality is oppressed by societal norms and expectations. It also highlights the struggle of trying to please others and conforming to societal expectations, while losing one's identity and true self in the process.
