ring ting tingling too
Come on, it's lovely weather
for a sleigh ride together with you
Outside the snow is falling
and friends are calling "yoo hoo",
Come on, it's lovely weather
for a sleigh ride together with you.
Giddy yap, giddy yap, giddy yap,
let's go, Let's look at the show,
We're riding in a wonderland of snow.
Giddy yap, giddy yap, gidd yap,
it's grand, Just holding your hand,
We're gliding along with a song
of a wintry fairy land
Our cheeks are nice and rosy
and comfy cozy are we
We're snuggled up together
like two birds of a feather would be
Let's take that road before us
and sing a chorus or two
Come on, it's lovely weather
for a sleigh ride together with you.
There's a birthday party
at the home of Farmer Gray
It'll be the perfect ending a of perfect day
We'll be singing the songs
we love to sing without a single stop
At the fireplace while we watch
the chestnuts pop. pop! pop! pop!
There's a happy feeling
nothing in the world can buy
When they pass around the coffee
and the pumpkin pie
It'll nearly be like a picture print
by Currier and Ives
These wonderful things are the things
we remember all through our lives!
Just hear those sleigh bells jingling,
ring ting tingling too
Come on, it's lovely weather
for a sleigh ride together with you
Outside the snow is falling
and friends are calling "yoo hoo",
Come on, it's lovely weather
for a sleigh ride together with you.
It's lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you
It's lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you
The lyrics of Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme's "Sleigh Ride" depict a charming winter scene where the singer invites their love interest to go on a sleigh ride with them. The opening lines set the tone by describing the cheerful sound of sleigh bells jingling and ringing through the air. The singer then invites their companion to enjoy the delightful weather together, which is perfect for a sleigh ride. The snowy environment and the presence of friends add to the festive atmosphere.
As the sleigh ride progresses, the chorus that follows mentions the giddy feeling of excitement as they glide through the winter wonderland, the sight of which is a mesmerizing show. The singer enjoys the experience of holding their companion's hand and being with them, akin to two birds of a feather. They then sing a chorus or two as they travel down the road.
The song's bridge takes the listener to a birthday party at Farmer Gray's home. They sing and enjoy themselves as they watch chestnuts pop in the fireplace. As the party winds down, the hosts pass around coffee and pumpkin pie, which fills everyone with joy. The lyrics then suggest that these moments are the ones that people remember their entire lives, evoking the sense of nostalgia that comes with the holiday season.
Overall, the song is a cheerful and upbeat tribute to winter and the happiness it can bring, especially when shared with loved ones, friends, and the larger community.

One of the best Christmas albums around, rating up there with Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, the Carpenters, and Tony Bennett. Steve and Eydie knew how to deliver a song. Two incredible voices spanning the 20th and 21st Century. I love this Christmas record.

You have a good memory. "Sleigh Ride" was on The Great Songs Of Christmas - Album Five, released by Goodyear in 1965.

Those were the days, spinning those LPs on my folks' long Zenith console stereo. :) That album had a red cover.
