@@gerudoking3180 Are you saying Zeus or Aphrodite are not gods? They surely are, and since we're talking about the Ancient Rome, i have to remind you that adultery was indeed a crime and people likely couldn't just say "Zeus did it too" to defend themselves.

You did not try to attack Hestia or Hades btw.

Zeus also is not a cheater just because yes, loving this much rapresented something of the ancient society: the chief god had of course as a lover of wisdom to be an experienced lover, as it was the feature of important anf intellectual men, strengthen also by the fact that the term philosopher just means "LOVER of knowledge". (Symposium backs me up)

And yes, the greek gods are elevations of greater concepts of the greek world, but that doesn't mean spirituality must be absent by it, you talked about it with the tone of the one who watches the greeks as men who venerated just things they liked when this is not definitely the case: they just thought gods were related in their highness to things they thought were important. And frankly, not everyone believed in the same identical things, gods or rituals in Greece, philosophies speak by themselves.

Look up religious syncretism.

So I took 5 key things from this epic and easily understood self study video of The ENTIRE Story of Greek Mythology Explained
1. the humans were flees
2. the gods are children
3. the children were heroes
4. the "hero's" in MOST cases were the original villains
5. and the villains weren't really ever villeins at all. They were just cursed, tricked, or forced by literal disaster level circumstances lol

@@devroom8904 You are watching it too much from a psychological point of view, narratively speaking Athena couldn't just, as being the goddess of wisdom, let Medusa go without consequences, even tho it was Poseidon's fault. Also there were gods who didn't really actively hurt others like Hermes, Demetra, Hades, Hestia and, if we think about it, even Ares.

@@mariano8910 A psychological consideration of the events should be duly noted. Keep in mind that the Greeks considered these folk 'gods' for a long time, with a Roman version of each story as well. More often than not, this was used by man to justify moral shortcomings: "Sure, I committed incest, but didn't Zeus do the same thing?" Not that the point you're making is untrue, as we should consider it narratively as well, but this was far more interactive back then, and these gods were objects of man's veneration

It’s honestly hard for me to apprehend what you’re saying, so if you’d like to explain it a little better, I’m all ears. I did call them “gods,” and I never pretended they weren’t. While I don’t believe the folklore, I do believe in a spiritual side of life in which these spirits are manifest (not “on Olympus,” but they ran the Greek nation, per Deut. 32:8-9.) The gods here are reflections of the hearts of the Greeks at the time, for one will only reflect the character of their subjector.

Wow I’m a big fan of Greek Mythology. After this video I’m going to research what anthropology means. I rather learn than someone tell me about it. I don’t feel weird anymore about being in love with Greek mythology. I see I’m not alone. I watch every movie I can find that has anything to do with the Greek mythology even if the movie only has 1 God in it I will watch it like a child at Disney world. I have always wanted to know about the Greek history, the story timeline, the music, the visuals and the storytelling is so much on point. @@ericparnell2037 Considering how he had a wife and children, no. However, homoromantic and homosexual relationships are not uncommon in greek myths and ancient greek in general (think of pederasty). Gods like Apollo, Zeus arguably, Hermes, Pan, and Dionysus all have myths in which they fall in love with the same sex. This isn't essentially "gay" though as same-sex relations where thought of differently back then.

@@kangkang1560 fyi it is stated that Greeks welcomed the christian religion when it first arived there, Christianity became the prominent religion throughout the age of the roman and byzantine empire and became even stronger when we were enslaved by the Turks and conservatism is holding it in place atm, despite that fact there are still some dodecatheists (the belief of the 12 Gods) but don't really show it, The orthodox church has huge economic, political and military power unfortunately due to old laws and beliefs so it's not very likely to ever come back

Always been fascinated with greek mythology as a teenager while learning some of the stories in my English class. Whenever we learned about greek mythology the class was never boring thats for sure. This was a great summary for my research of Greek myth. I know a lot more that wasn't mentioned in this video such as different versions of certain stories, but this is a much shorter recap than what I wrote out so I'll definitely reference this video heavily for my webcomic that I want to make (it's about modern retellings of Greek myths and will have a lot of bonus content, such as fun facts, at the end of chapters). But it's gonna take a while until I manage to even just get all of the character designs done so this video will be super helpful for the next few years of character and story creation ahead of me.
