Shape Of My Heart
Sting & The Police Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

He deals the cards as a meditation
And those he plays never suspect
He doesn't play for the money he wins
He doesn't play for respect

He deals the cards to find the answer
The sacred geometry of chance
The hidden law of a probable outcome
The numbers lead a dance

I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart

He may play the jack of diamonds
He may lay the queen of spades
He may conceal a king in his hand
While the memory of it fades

I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart
That's not the shape
The shape of my heart

And if I told you that I loved you
You'd maybe think there's something wrong
I'm not a man of too many faces
The mask I wear is one

Those who speak know nothing
And find out to their cost
Like those who curse their luck in too many places
And those who fear are lost

I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart
That's not the shape of my heart

That's not the shape
The shape of my heart

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Sting & The Police's song 'Shape of My Heart' a song about a man who deals cards not for money or respect, but to search for answers through the mathematical patterns and laws of probability. He approaches card playing as a form of meditation, believing that the way the cards fall contains hidden messages and meanings. The verses describe the man's approach to the game while the chorus is a reflection on his life, and how it is not defined by the cards he plays, but by something greater.

Through the lyrics, the artist seems to suggest that life itself is a game of chance where the actions of one individual can affect others. Just like in poker, we are all dealt a hand at the beginning of life that we cannot change, but through our choices and ability to read situations and people's reactions, we can use our 'cards' to shape and define our future.

The symbolic meanings of the suits of cards are also explored, with spades representing the swords of a soldier, clubs as weapons of war and diamonds as a symbol of money. However, despite the potential wealth and power that playing cards can bring, the artist suggests that this is not why the man in the song is drawn to it, rather it is for the unsolvable mystery and beauty of the mathematical patterns created by chance.

@@dorianagrayportraits9180 BIBLE calls us all to be real, sober minded souls, who live holy lives on earth.
BIBLE calls nor expect nobody to be:
- religious of any kind
- monk
- nun
BIBLE expect us to turn our LACK OF KNOWLEDGE into KNOWLEDGE OF TRUTH (HOSEA 4:6)
Each human life on earth:
- repent
- BORN AGAIN and GO AND SIN NO MORE
- be baptised in HOLY SPIRIT /THE COMFORTER
- LIVE HOLY
= soul, after earthly death in HEAVEN. Easy logic, asks no degree in anything.

Bible calls us to give out RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT, no to keep our mouth shut and support everything with blind eyes and deaf ears.

See no evil, speak no evil and hear no evil – that old saying, it belongs to masons, am I right again? The vow of silence of theirs.

SOULS, dare to read and study BIBLE (KJV) and search about FREEMASONRY.

When you reach maturity, you cannot help but become a Sting fan. He has always been great, but when you reach an age that your are able to really listen, you truly appreciate his craft. The lyrics are poetry. The artistry, chord progressions, melodies are flawless. He is incredible.
