Pigeons
Stone Gossard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There goes my love, there goes her heart
And that's not the last of it, or the worst part
There go my eves, down my downspout
There goes my car, and my house
Cause I'm out of here
Cause I'm out
I'm not through sleeping
I'm not through sleeping around
I'm not through sleeping
I'm not through sleeping around
There goes the pop, there goes my ears
And I've been around so long, just not here
There goes the wings, of my grey dove
There goes the world, I've been of
Cause I'm out of here
I'm not through sleeping
I'm not through sleeping around
I'm not through sleeping
I'm not through sleeping around
It's not the way that it seems
But yeah I know that I like it
Inside this mixed up dream
Yeah I know that I like it
Knock off the shirt, knock off the gloves
Knock off the price, of my love
Knock off this deer, in my headlights
Knock off my seed, and my wife
Cause I'm out of here
Cause I'm out
I'm not through sleeping
I'm not through sleeping around
I'm not through sleeping
I'm not through sleeping around
I'm not through sleeping
I'm not through sleeping around
I'm not through sleeping
I'm not through sleeping around
I'm not through sleeping

I'm not through sleeping around
I'm not through sleeping...

Overall Meaning

The song "Pigeons" by Stone Gossard is a melancholic tune that explores the impact of unfaithfulness on a relationship. The lyrics convey a sense of heartbreak and betrayal as the singer describes the loss of his love, his home, and his possessions. The repetition of the line "I'm not through sleeping around" throughout the song highlights the singer's infidelity and his inability to commit to his partner.

The first verse of the song begins with the singer observing his love leaving him, taking her heart with her. He then lists the loss of his possessions and declares that he is leaving. The second verse details the loss of his hearing, his innocence, and his sense of place in the world. The chorus reinforces his infidelity, and in the bridge of the song, the singer reflects on his mixed-up emotions and the fact that he knows he likes the excitement and novelty of sleeping around.

The song's title and the repeated image of "pigeons" in the lyrics serve as a metaphor for the singer's wandering eye and inability to commit. Pigeons are often associated with urban environments and scavenging for food, which is perhaps why they are used as a symbol for the singer's philandering ways. The song's melody and instrumentation reflect the mood of the lyrics, with a slow, mournful guitar riff and a simple drum beat underscoring the sadness and regret in the lyrics.

Interstellar Overdrive and Pigeon are nothing alike. The two songs don't share a single chord between them and they aren't in the same key. Also Interstellar is a descending chord progression, Pigeon is a riff based around two chords. The only thing they have in common is distortion, which about 90% of rock songs have.

Tiene un cierto aire a Frank black, salvando las distancias, buena canción de un álbum simplemente aceptable, nada más, (5/10)

If nobody has noticed the fact this sounds nigh identical to "If Only" by qotsa (from an album that was released on Stone's label) I'm shocked. Great song though!!
