Parks grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, US, where she "messed around with instruments in the house" and took up violin in the fourth grade, eventually teaching herself how to play the instrument by ear. When she discovered the violin playing style of Northeast Africa, her eyes opened to the possibilities of the instrument. "The way they played it was different from classical music. I resonated with the style, and I was like, 'Maybe I can use this style with electronic music,'" she says. She has released two projects to date, including the self-titled Sudan Archives in July 2017, and Sink in 2018, both on Stones Throw Records.

Can you hear yourself?
Do you know what you be thinking?
Do you know what you like? Do you know what you be thinking? Mm
Do you know what you feel? Is it even real?
Do you know? Do you know what you be thinking?
Do you know what you like? Do you know what you be thinking?
Is it even real? Do you know what you feel?
Do you hear what you be saying?
In "Is This Real," Sudan Archives poses a series of introspective questions to the listener. The first verse begins with, "Do you hear what you be saying?" This line immediately asks the listener to pay attention to their thoughts and words. The following lines, "Can you hear yourself? Do you know what you be thinking?" further emphasize the importance of self-awareness and reflection. The chorus asks, "Do you know what you like? Do you know what you be thinking?" suggesting a disconnect between the self and one's thoughts and desires. Sudan Archives questions whether what the listener feels is even real, highlighting the sometimes tenuous grasp we have on our own emotions and experiences.
In the second verse, Sudan Archives continues to probe the issue of self-awareness, asking, "Do you know what you feel? Is it even real?" The repetition of the chorus throughout the song reinforces the importance of these questions and the need for deeper self-examination. Lastly, the song ends where it begins, with the question, "Do you hear what you be saying?" This question is even more important in the context of the entire song, which encourages the listener to examine their thoughts, feelings, and desires more closely.
