I thought Jeff might enjoy this short article from Missouri: Public Record Requests Receive Inconsistent Responses From Mo. Sheriff Offices
Ask for one day’s worth of arrest and incident reports from your local sheriff, and you could get all the documents for free.
Or officials might charge hundreds of dollars and demand payment up front before sending anything.
Or they may not respond at all.
A Sunshine Law audit of Missouri’s 114 county sheriffs revealed vast inconsistencies in responses to requests for basic public information. Eighty-eight agencies responded to the coalition’s initial request for information in some form, a response rate of 77 percent. But some required large payments for records, and some never responded.
So, this basic right to get public records is more than likely happening in every state.

@gordoha
I heard that jingle used in a dash cam video that someone else uploaded; from England. I think it's a public domain tune. It is catchy!

What about the other 49 states? Here in Louisiana we still have Napoleonic Law that supersedes Common Law that supersedes Statutory Law and this combined with one of the most corrupt state government in America makes it a hard and time consuming task for an average busy person to try and research.
tradecenter7
I've been there, and yeah it's sad but true.
Josef
@tradecenter7 Denham Springs, how bout that? Most people don't know where it is. I don't drive in BR. Ridiculous argument. Keep thinking it's the police that's the problem. All those agencies are out to get you cause they have nothing else to do. Yeah.

@Josef Roesler
In Monroe the police have nothing better to do. We have Monroe PD and West Monroe PD and the Sheriffs and ULM campus police and State Police. So yeah they go looking for trouble. I have twice been stopped and frisked when I was younger and I'm white and I was just going for a walk in middle class suburbia. And hey, if I had to deal with BR traffic every day I would be an asshole also.
Josef
@tradecenter7 Yeah, because I currently reside somewhere explains something. Brilliant. What you can't seem to understand is that Jeff seeks these things out. People who whine about the cops harassing them generally are doing things to attract the cops' attention. The only time cops have ever bothered me was when I was breaking the law, they didn't just sit around waiting to fuck with me. But I guess in Monroe, they have nothing else to do than to look for you to play with.
