This is why hip-hop is important. I love your music more than any other. Hardly a day goes by that I don't listen to reggae. The very first time I heard classic reggae music about 20 years ago, all I could think to myself was "What is that SOUND? I need more of this." I am a fan of many genres, but nothing--but nothing--is to me what reggae music is. I listen to it nearly every day. It is the soundtrack of my life. Sometimes, if I'm chatting with a Jamaican somewhere, they'll be surprised that I'm so familiar with this music. My reply is always the same, "It didn't give me a choice!"
How could I not fall in love with the best music in the world? And the sheer QUANTITY of it simply blows my mind--all from this little island! Did you know that if one were to stack every Jamaican vinyl release one on top of another (most of which are reggae), the resulting tower would be taller than the former world trade center (100+ stories)? It's all just so remarkable to me. And there are so many different styles and moods within it.

And, as you said, it is all fundamentally about good vibes and appreciating the life we've been given through the music. Wherever reggae music is playing, all I had to do was embrace the sound, and people were always welcoming of me. I truly cannot think of a counterexample. I read the gleaner at least several times a month just because Jamaica's on my mind. Reggae music is a force of nature to me.
I hope one day I can do something to give back to the Jamaican people, because I cannot imagine my life without it.

I am a lover of music from all cultures and though I know and love a few songs, reggae has happened to slip by my curiosity until now. Hearing a hip-hop song that sparked a memory inside of me because I knew I had heard it before, I instantly went to Genius to find out more about the intro and it brought me here. I'll get to the point: you have sincerely convinced me to dive into the deep end of reggae and Jamaican culture. I did it with Russian music/culture when I had a girlfriend from there, and learned the language out of love for it. I can do it again with dedication. I believe this song was also sampled in the hook of Kardinall Offishall's "Ol' Time Killin' (Pt. 2)" as well, which was released in 2001. This means that Super Beagle's "Dust A Sound Boy" (from the late 80's? on the earlier Stalag riddim) HAD to have been released BEFORE KARDI's track (in '01) in order to be sampled. Regardless, it's great to see a new generation of artists sampling old school jams like this one, and it's even greater to see that the yute's listening to them. #musicneverdies
