Cruzando el mar
Super Ratones Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
por la noche que me diste
gracias
un futuro prometiste
gracias
hacen los monos cuando hay gente
gracias
porque lo nuestro es diferente
Gracias
me diste todo para hacerlo
gracias
porque tenemos que perderlo?
gracias
nuestro amor es oro en polvo
gracias si se hunde será el colmo
Somos los dueños del mundo
no quiero bucear profundo
Oro, oro, oro
en el fondo del mar
Thank you
ten cuidado con la gente
Thank you
que no dice lo que siente
Thank you
ten cuidado la sentina
Thank you
tiene un olor que contamina
Thank you
me diste todo para hacerlo
Thank you
porque tenemos que perderlo?
Somos los dueños del mundo
no quiero bucear profundo
Oro, oro, oro
en el fondo del mar
The lyrics of Super Ratones's song Cruzando el mar is filled with gratitude but also with caution, and hints at some underlying issues related to love and ownership. The song opens with the singer extending gratitude to someone for the night they shared, and for promising a future. However, the phrase 'hacen los monos cuando hay gente' (monkeys do it in front of people) implies that there may be a mismatch between the expectations of the two people involved. It suggests that perhaps the other person only did it because others were watching, or for some ulterior motive. Yet the singer is still grateful because "lo nuestro es diferente" (what we have is different).
In the second verse, the singer continues to express gratitude for everything that the other person has given him/her, and questions why they have to lose it. The phrase "nuestro amor es oro en polvo" (our love is gold dust) can be interpreted to mean that their relationship is precious but fragile. The singer acknowledges that if it sinks ("si se hunde será el colmo"), it would be disappointing.
The chorus "Somos los dueños del mundo, no quiero bucear profundo // Oro, oro, oro en el fondo del mar" (We are the owners of the world, I don't want to dive deep, Gold, gold, gold at the bottom of the sea) hints at the theme of ownership and control. This can be seen in the tension between gratitude for what the other person has given, and the underlying fear of losing it. The final phrase "ten cuidado la sentina, tiene un olor que contamina" (be careful of the bilge, it has a smell that contaminates) is a metaphorical warning that perhaps the relationship is no longer healthy, as signified by the sickening smell of the bilge.
