Yeah, like when someone says they are wary of dogs because one bit them in the past. A bite/attack can range from moments to a few minutes. Or even a car crash. These events can happen so fast but leave years of trauma to resolve. People drown in 3 feet of water and in 10 feet and so on. Don't discount what has happened to a person.

Same here, and it's gonna sound weird, but I often wonder if losing weight would be a good idea.

I'm currently 260lbs and look more like a young boy than a young adult female. I also work at a gas station, night shift and because of how I look I don't get hit on. I've heard many stories of girls who lost a lot of weight got way more attention for it, so that's something I fear. My fat kind of gives me a sense of security, because I figure who is gonna lug 260lbs of a limp person without being seen or throwing out their backs? Unless they're training to lift up heavy people.

This may seem weird but I never thought of it. I actually almost was kidnapped but after the incident I just talked with my friend, who was with me when it happened. I’m not actually scared and I feel calm when I think about it. I did the right thing and I’m fine. Maybe I only feel this way because I didn’t have it bad and all that happened was a nice lady called me over before they got near me. The only thing that changed was I thought of it every time I saw a similar car or walk in the same spot. And I always think ‘if they were going to threaten me to do disgusting things with a weapon I would rather die than live with the feeling’

I know this video is old, but as a survivor of kidnap & rape by multiple people (including family members) I have to say I am incredibly proud of what the 2 women have done. My long, multi-year story isn’t public & never covered by the news, so I don’t know what it would be like to deal with the emotional trauma in a public way, but I do know how I dealt with it in a very private, hush-hush environment. My trauma wasn’t recognized, nor was there any justice served. I was shamed as a child if I mentioned anything about what I went through. In fact, in January of this year (2022) did I finally admit to someone what I went through. While I have openly talked about a few things, I’d hid the entire horror from my husband, kids & friends. I appreciate you supporting surviving champions who have been through living hell & came out with a an immeasurable about of strength, grace, empathy & resilience in order to help others understand how to do the same, no matter their story or own experience.

I haven't been kidnapped, but I have been a victim of brutal abuse, sex trafficking, torture, neglect, and a list of other things. And what I gotta say for those who wanna victim blame and for those who want to minimize or degrade all of us who went through those traumas and traumas of all sorts, walk in our shoes for the amount of years, months, hours, even minutes of the trauma we've faced. People need to be aware of these things and need to be taught how to avoid being in these situations. These girls are heroes in my eyes. They deserve every inch of respect. They are trying to make a difference for this world by talking about what they went through and teaching kids and adults how they can avoid these experiences. These women are brave. They don't just speak for themselves, and they don't just speak for other survivors of kidnapping, but they speak for all of us who went through some serious trauma and are our voices. what they both said about educating kids on sexual abuse from a young age (in an age-appropriate way) is *SO IMPORTANT. * people scoff at sex ed for kindergartners, but how are the children being abused at home supposed to know that something is wrong? by not teaching children about these things, we’re allowing abusers to entirely control the framing of the abuse in the mind of the child.

and you might be thinking well, parents should be able to choose how to educate their kids on that, but the issue is that 99% of the time, abusers are people the child is very close to — a family friend, relative, parent. so the person making that decision may very well be the abuser, or someone the abuser can manipulate. it has to be a universal, unbiased education.

When I was fifteen, I left my grandmother's house during a sleepover and got into a car with a stranger from the internet. It took some convincing to get him to stop ten minutes later at my parents' house on the way to his to "grab some money". Those ten minutes in the car were gutwrenchingly terrifying. I cannot imagine the crippling terror Alicia went through. And to be an activist after all of that trauma? Truly remarkable.

One thing about when you are kidnapped, yeah it may have only been hours, but it may have felt like days, and if has been at least 48-72+ hours, then it seems like the days merge, and the only things you can really think about is death, hope, and the how helpless you are. Its a sad, painful, traumatic experience.

I was kidnapped when I was 5 by my dad. He was high on drugs at the the time and tried to use me to barter for more. He left me in a hot car locked in. My brother was a cop and traced the car he stole which was my moms and they found me passed out in there. Guess I was fine since I’m alive today but I’ll never forget seeing his face laughing and smiling as he watched me struggling in that car. At that time he was a very different man…Unfortunately it’s one of my only vivid childhood memories although since I had passed out I didn’t remember my brother finding me so it just makes me feel alone when I think about it. Just got our relationship on the right track at age 27 but he’s been clean since I was 12. To this day I cannot be left anywhere with doors locked. I always start freaking out and hyperventilating. I feel sorry for the people who had it worse than me 😩❤️

When I was 13, my best friends older brother, who was a decade older than me, attempted to convince me to sneak out and get in his car via AIM messenger. I almost did. At 13, I thought it was cool that someone older would want to ‘hang out’ with me. When I look back on it, it gives me goosebumps imagining what could’ve happened. I remember being groomed by lots of men when I was 12 (2009) it really is scary. Luckily I didn't meet anyone as they didn't show up and I went with my friend to the cinema so I wasn't alone and another time my mum read the messages and called the police to protect me but they definitely sent extremely explicit messages and showed explicit things on camera as well as asking me to. I feel lucky for never being captured physically but it's still traumatising and I can't imagine the fear these women felt, I'm so happy to see them thriving now.

I was groomed and exploited from age 12-17 by people I met exclusively online. I feel like an episode like this would give multiple survivors a chance to share warning signs and hopefully prevent others from being exploited

This is why I speak to my son about everything I can possibly think of to help him be aware and keep himself safe when I'm not there to, like just walking down the street to a friend's house. He has told me that once on the way to a friends, a car he didn't recognize slow down by him and he turned and ran home. I was proud of him and myself for having these talks with him.

This really made me think about how much my parents look out for me. If I skip a meal, they get concerned. If they don’t see me outside when I’m hanging out with my friends, they text and ask me. And if they think someone has malicious intent they tell me about it. I used to think it was just them being overprotective, but this kind of changed my mind. It may be annoying but, they don’t know what could be going on behind the scenes.

Here's a tip: if your a teen and you want to meet an online friend irl, have an adult and/or a group of your friends go with you. If they don't have ill intent then you can introduce them to some people in your life, no harm no fowl, and if they do have ill intent their likely to not do anything if you're not alone.

when i first heard jan's story on stephanie's channel, i felt so terrified and sad and hurt imagining a child going through such thing specially her case was the 'complicated' kind because it's a family friend. i was crying so much at the first encounter of her story. it could have happened to anyone specially with the type of situation she was in. i always go back rewatching this to hear jan tell the story herself. she was so vulnerable at that moment and i would have been so scared as a kid if i was the one in her position. she was so brave for everything she did and no one deserved what she had gone through. jan, you are such an inspiration to young women and female kids. 💛

I find the work you do here so important, and i find that the people who share these story’s and experiences are so brave it’s amazing. (Tw!!) as someone who’s attempted suicide and has self harmed i find it necessary I speak up about my trauma and experiences with being bullied all my life for being gay and trans, but it sometimes can feel impossible. I wish i had the chance to speak up like these people so bravely do and i appreciate that they find the courage to speak up. I hope everyone who has hothead terrible experiences get better and seek the proper mental help because they deserve better than the cards they’ve been dealt.

I saved my sister from being kidnapped 12 years ago, here's the story: My sister was 6yo at the time and I was 15. There was a playground 100m away from our apartment building and my sister used to go down to play there every day. So one day I randomly decide to watch her play from the window of my room and see something suspicious. Some guy goes to her and she leaves her friends to run and hug him. Ofc I lose my mind but I don't know what to do. Should I tell my parents? Should I go down? I can't decide and I freeze. The guy sits down on one of the benches and he talks with my sister (laughing and giggling) for like 15minutes and then they hug again and he leaves. I'm a child too so I'm stupid and I don't tell my parents and decide that it's probably the dad of one of the kids playing. When my sister comes back, I ask her who that was and she says "he's my best friend". This feeling of dread and horror sinks in at that moment. So the next day, when my sister goes down to play again, I go down after her and hide around the trees to watch her from afar. The guy comes again. I watch for awhile to see if another kid comes to him because at this point I'm still thinking "he must be a dad, he must be!". But non of the other kids even pay attention to him. Then I see him touch my sister's butt while they sit next to each other on the bench and I storm to where they are and call out her name. The guy immediately gets up and starts running away. I take my sister and go back home and ask her to tell me how she met that guy. So apparently one day this motherfcker asked the kids if they want him to help them swing higher and some of them said yes. Then the guy started to come everyday to talk to them and he was especially interested in my little sister. He basically manipulated her into thinking he was her "bestfriend" and that they "belong together", that he would never make her do homework or go to school if she lived with him and apparently even kissed her on the mouth one time. After that I never let my sister out of my sight, I was glued to her. The guy came back to the playground a few more times after that day but I was always there with her so he just left whenever he saw me and eventually stopped coming. At the time I started telling my parents that I didn't want to live in that house anymore and forced my sister to say the same thing. We moved a few months later. My sister still can't properly talk about this event years later and sees this guy in her dreams sometimes. I'm so thankful that I looked out the window that day. I'm 100% sure that guy was planning to kidnap my sister one of those days. If I hadn't seen them hugging and talking, maybe she wouldn't even be here with me now. THE WORLD IS A SCARY PLACE.

So the point of me sharing my sister's most haunting memory is to warn everyone to ALWAYS check on your siblings and children. Kids are frighteningly easy to manipulate and they lack the awareness of red flags, especially at younger ages. Talk to them, observe them. Always ask them how their day went, if they've met someone new that day, if something weird/funny happened that day. Kids are honest, they'll tell you the truth right away. Let's protect our children together :)

I am nearly 21 and recently started unearthing these memories buried deep within me of visits with my great grandfather when I was a child. It shook me to my core because everything they said was very real, I was brainwashed to believe I was the special one and I never thought it was anything bad, but was told to keep it a secret to avoid upsetting my family. Whoever is reading, I hope you are doing okay, my heart is out to you, Thank you so much for standing up for this, Jan and Alicia. I almost got myself into that situation, but my parents thankfully found out and stopped me. My sister and I met someone on Roblox when we were 14, and we became friends, and were friends for 2 whole years. We started a chat Document, and wrote to eachother on there. They groomed us and gave us compliments, comparing us to our favorite movie characters, made us feel special, wrote us poems, and letters about their "Problems" and we wrote ours. They gave us song recommendations, and we did too. We waited for the day that we could meet each other, and planned shows that we would watch together, we would all get an apartment together, and go to echoey stair wells and sing songs. Thankfully it never happened. Now that I think about it, the songs they recommended kind of foreshadowed it all. Songs like Killer Queen, Sports, and Two Birds. It still freaks me out and occasionally I get emotional about it and wish I never had met them. All of those things Alicia, and Jan said about moving on and not always feeling 100% are true. It takes time. Whenever I go out, I always check my surroundings, and plan an escape if something happens. I believe everyone should be aware of this topic. If you were or are abducted, you need to talk to someone IMMEDIATELY! I had held back from telling my parents about this communication between me, my sister and the person, because I knew I would get in trouble, I was too scared to break up the "Friendship" Don't be afraid to let someone know.
