Cold Day In July
Suzy Bogguss Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The moon is full but my arms are empty
All night long how I've pleaded and cried
You always said the day that you would leave me
Would be a cold day in July

Your bags are packed and not a word is spoken
Guess we said everything with goodbye
Time moves so slow when promises get broken
On this cold day in July

Sun's comin' up, comin' up down on main street
Children shout as they're running out to play
Head in my hands here I am standing in my bare feet
Watching you drive away
Watching you drive away

You said that we were gonna last forever
You said our love would never die
Looks like spring and feels like sunny weather
But it's a cold day in July

Sun's comin' up, comin' up down on main street
Children shout as they're running out to play
Head in my hands here I am standing in my bare feet
Watching you drive away
Watching you drive away

The moon is full but my arms are empty
All night long how I've pleaded and cried
You always said the day that you would leave me

Would be a cold day in July
Here comes that cold day in July

Love this!!! This lady has one of the most beautiful voices In the annals of music. Her voice is inimitable! This is probably my favorite song off "Voices in the Wind" album. She tugs at the heartstrings with this one....I get chills every time I hear this!

Little Shepherd Farm

She is simply angelic. In my life there have only been a few that worth calling angelic and she is the last of them.

Mr Grey man

her voice is always one of the most enjoyable female voices out there.

Linda Wesler

I met her several times in the 90's and she is one of the best female singers out there, also, she is so down to earth.

Kimberly Aita

I didn't even know Dixie Chicks did this.... I love them but this is one of my favorites by Suzy Bogguss although I love all of her stuff

Little Shepherd Farm

@Rusty Wolfe I still haven't heard the Dixie Chicks...I mean just CHICKS since they changed their name because they think its racist ...along with everything else in the overall mindset....and I have no desire to hear anyone but Suzi sing this song. So I ain't goin' nowhere.

Rusty Wolfe

@Kimberly Aita It's on their Fly album. The problem with theirs is that they changed the arrangement. Had they left it just like this, with the slower te,po it would'v been fine.

Suzy's version is the best...no if's ands or butts about it. This woman's voice soothes me to no extent...she is my favorite female vocalist and very underated...

Jeff Clark
