After taking a brief recording hiatus in the mid-1990s to start a family with her husband, songwriter Doug Crider, Bogguss returned to the country music scene to find that her charting power had already faded. Although she last appeared on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart in 1999, Bogguss continues to record and perform around the country to a loyal following.
Her most recent recordings have ventured into swing and jazz variations of country. These albums really showcase the tremendous talent in her voice. Suzy is a true singer, and her voice has so much versatility.
In 2014, Suzy added an album of Merle Haggard songs entitled "Lucky". The country & western flavor dominates this album, unlike some of her other recent work. To promote this new album, Suzy has embarked on a nationwide tour.
In The Day

He's taken by her smile
She thinks he looks reckless
And she's feeling kind of wild
They leave that bar together
Make the rounds from place to place
They try to keep it light
Still they wind up face to face
So they up the bottle
To let those feelings out
It's the only way they know
To say the truth or hide the doubt
In the night they love and fight
And sometimes even touch
But in the day they don't remember much
They hold on to one another
Make a circle of their friends
Time passes quickly
When the party never ends
They do everything together
Till there's nothing left to do
But keep the champagne flowing
Right on through the honeymoon
Well the sun comes through the window
She crawls out of bed
Tries to make the coffee
While he tries to clear his head
They stare across the table
through the silence and the hurt
They've come down to the problem
And it's gonna take some work
The lyrics of Suzy Bogguss's "In The Day" tell the story of two people who meet in a tavern and end up spending the night together, moving from place to place, drinking and trying to keep things light. However, when the sun comes up and they sober up, reality sets in, and they are left with the consequences of their actions. The morning after, they are faced with the silence, hurt, and problems that they had been hiding from the night before.
The song explores the idea of using alcohol as a way to escape the truth and the doubts that one may be feeling, and how it can lead to temporary happiness, but ultimately result in deepening the issues at hand. The line "In the night they love and fight, and sometimes even touch, but in the day they don't remember much" highlights the idea that their behavior at night is a result of their true feelings, but they cannot face them in sober reality.
The lyrics also describe how the couple tries to hold on to their relationship, but they are left with the weight of their problems, and it will take effort to work through them. The song's somber tone and reflective lyrics showcase the complexities of human relationships and the difficulties of facing one's true feelings.
