After taking a brief recording hiatus in the mid-1990s to start a family with her husband, songwriter Doug Crider, Bogguss returned to the country music scene to find that her charting power had already faded. Although she last appeared on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart in 1999, Bogguss continues to record and perform around the country to a loyal following.
Her most recent recordings have ventured into swing and jazz variations of country. These albums really showcase the tremendous talent in her voice. Suzy is a true singer, and her voice has so much versatility.
In 2014, Suzy added an album of Merle Haggard songs entitled "Lucky". The country & western flavor dominates this album, unlike some of her other recent work. To promote this new album, Suzy has embarked on a nationwide tour.
Eat At Joe's
Suzy Bogguss Lyrics

Raking up those dimes and quarters
Slinging eggs and ham
Scrambled,poached or over easy
Coffee black and strong
Jukebox of scratchy records
I play'em all night long
When the world is asleep
Darling come take a seat
You can always eat at Joe's (eat at Joe's)
Here comes old Frank Taylor smelling like old gin
Guess his wife couldn't get him sober
It's up to me again
Here's a hot top on your momma
But I'll do I guess
Eternal blue neon we're never closed
When the world is asleep
Darling come take a seat
You can always eat at Joe's (eat at Joe's)
Hello prince charming where are you dear
When will you come in and order biscuits here
Truck drivers, musicians with no place to go
I can be your domectic goddess
For an hour or so
Eternal blue neon we're never closed
When the world is asleep
Darling come take a seat
You can always eat at Joe's (eat at Joe's)
The song "Eat at Joe's" by Suzy Bogguss is a sentimental tribute to a 24-hour diner, which is a popular meeting place for people from all walks of life. The lyrics depict the life of a waitress who works late into the night, serving food and drink to regulars who come in at all hours. The diner is described as a place where anyone can come and be welcomed, regardless of who they are or what their problems might be.
The first verse of the song introduces the singer, a waitress who works hard, slinging scrambled eggs and ham, and serving coffee all night long. The diner, which is named 'Joe's' is depicted as a place where the neon lights are always on, and customers are welcome no matter what time it is. Throughout the song, the waitress regularly interacts with customers, including regulars like Frank Taylor, truck drivers, and musicians who have nowhere else to go. Despite their flaws and issues, the waitress is always smiling and happy to serve them.
The chorus of the song is a catchy repetition of the diner's name, accompanied by a description of its inviting, blue neon lights. It emphasizes the idea that anyone can come and eat at Joe's, no matter what's going on in their lives. The song's lyrics contain humor and show empathy for the struggles of others. The song ends with the waitress still eagerly waiting for her prince charming to come in and order some biscuits.
