Feeling The Pull
Swell Season The Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To pack a bag
To head out on the road
To take away what I know is mine
And I'm running down
Past the yellow house
With Joe into the breeze
And I'm feeling the pull
Dragging me off again
And I'm feeling so small
Against the sky tonight
Well stories of an open line
And every time we work ourselves up into a rage
We smash and grab we pull the handle no one says
But everyone wants to be the one just climbing out
And I'm feeling the pull
Dragging me off again
And I'm feeling so small
Against that big sky tonight, tonight yeah
And I'm feeling the pull
Dragging me off again
And I'm feeling so small
Against the big sky tonight
And I'm feeling the pull
Dragging me on again
And I'm feeling so small
Against the big moon sky tonight, tonight oh
The song "Feeling the Pull" by Swell Season seems to be about wanderlust and the yearning to escape from routine and familiarity. The opening lines signify the singer's willingness to leave and explore new places, as they pack a bag and head out on the road to claim what is rightfully theirs. The mention of a yellow house and 'Joe' suggest childhood memories or nostalgia for a simpler time, where no one cared about their whereabouts or ambitions.
The lyrics then shift into a more introspective tone, describing the frustration of constantly feeling trapped in the mundane, and the frequent urges to break free and escape the monotony. The reference to 'stories of an open line' implies a longing for something more, perhaps an unkempt adventure or a chance at a new beginning. Despite feeling small and insignificant against the vast sky and moon, the singer continues to feel the pull and the desire to explore new horizons.
Overall, the song is a poignant reflection on the universal human experience of feeling stuck in the same routine day after day, and the desire to break free and explore new perspectives and experiences.

The Harp is in C. The song is in the key of G. He's playing cross harp which when you draw on the C, creates a G note. This is typical blues style harp playing. The main thing in cross harp is you have to phrase your harp playing generally beginning with a draw and ending with a draw.
