Low Rising
Swell Season The Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wanna sit you down and talk
I wanna pull back the veils
And find out what it is I've done wrong
I wanna tear these curtains down
I want you to meet me somewhere
Tonight in this old tourist town
And we'll go
Low rising
'Cause we've gotta come up
We've gotta come up
Low rising
'Cause there's no further for us to fall
Low rising
'Cause I fear we've had enough
Low rising
Oh, for the love of you

I wanna take you to the rock
I wanna jump right in
And see what that big ocean's got
I wanna turn this thing around
I wanna drink with you
All night, till we both fall down
Till we go

Low rising
'Cause we've gotta come up
We've gotta come up
Low rising
'Cause there's no further for us to fall
Low rising
And I fear we've had enough
Low rising
Oh, for the love of you

Low rising
'Cause we've gotta come up
We've gotta come up
Low rising
Til I fear we've had enough
Low rising
'Cause there's no further for us to fall
Low Rising
Oh, for the love of you

For the love of you
Low rising, low rising

I wanna sit you down and talk
I wanna sit you down and talk about it now

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Low Rising" by Swell Season reflect a desire for reconciliation. The singer wants to sit down and talk with someone, to find out what went wrong and how they can move forward. The metaphor of pulling back the veils suggests a desire for transparency and honesty, to reveal what has been hidden. The use of the word "curtains" further reinforces this idea, suggesting that something has been obscured from view.

The chorus, which repeats the phrase "low rising," suggests a feeling of stagnation or being stuck. The singer fears that they have hit rock bottom, and there is nowhere else to go but up. The repetition of the phrase also creates a sense of momentum, as if the singer is willing themselves to move forward. The repeated refrain of "for the love of you" reinforces the importance of the relationship and the desire to make things right.

The second verse introduces the metaphor of jumping into the ocean, which could be interpreted as a leap of faith or taking a risk. The desire to turn things around suggests a willingness to make changes and work towards a better future. The line "till we go" could be interpreted in a few different ways, either as a continuation of the ocean metaphor or as a reference to the idea of the relationship lasting until the end.

Overall, "Low Rising" is a heartfelt plea for reconciliation and a desire to move forward. The use of metaphors and repetition create a powerful sense of emotion and momentum, as the singer grapples with their feelings and the state of their relationship.

Ted: I'm not in love with Robin, but she's like family to me, and I just can't lose her.
Can I ask you to move past that?

Victoria: I really hope you get her someday.

This is how love works. You love someone so much but even at its most you know that if they want something else you let them go. Even if it hurts so much, you just let them go and that is the ultimate sign of love. Which is what these two show when the rain is falling on them, they still realize that they are not perfect for each other and they just walk away for someone else. pure artist pure beauty/

@spirals 73 are you me? I'm both the person needing to be let go and having to let go... I know it's better for him (and me) but its killing me, its been ten years I was with him....

@khomsimohamed723

@Chris im going trough this now, you have to convince him how do you know its better for him and for you to let go.. if you can't, its not a decision to make by your own.
