Although the band started out playing at Christian music festivals, they shun the label of "Christian rock," with singer and guitarist Jon Foreman saying, "For us, it's a faith, not a genre. We've always been very open and honest about where the songs are coming from. For us, these songs are for everyone. Calling us `Christian rock' tends to be a box that closes some people out and excludes them. And that's not what we're trying to do. Music has always opened my mind -- and that's what we want." They started out on Charlie Peacock's label "re:think" and spent several years appearing at Christian festivals and enjoying Christian radio hits. Most of their early tours were with Christian bands and both of the band's new members were borrowed from Christian bands.
Switchfoot did not see success outside of the Christian rock scene until they were featured alongside singer Mandy Moore on the A Walk To Remember soundtrack. The band's first true commercial success came in 2003 with the release of their fourth major label (and first mainstream label) offering, The Beautiful Letdown. The album went on to sell more than 2 million albums and Switchfoot became the most popular rock band to be associated with Christian music.
They were featured on the British Edition of the Spiderman II soundtrack along with the likes of Taking Back Sunday and Dashboard Confessional to name a few, in 2004 with the song 'Meant To Live'.
In 2005 Switchfoot released "Nothing Is Sound". The album went gold within 3 months and received much critical acclaim.
Switchfoot's highly anticipated album, titled "Oh! Gravity." was released on December 26th, 2006.
On November 10th, 2009, Switchfoot released their first album produced under their own label, lowercase people. "Mess of Me", a single from the album released months before the CD, has enjoy chart-topping radio plays since its release.
In 2010 Switchfoot released their album, "Hello Hurricane".
On September 27th, 2011, to much anticipation and excitement, Switchfoot released their newest album, "Vice Verses".

I Dare You To Move
Switchfoot Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Welcome to existence
Everyone's here
Everyone's here
Everybody's watching you now
Everybody waits for you now
What happens next?
What happens next?
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before
Welcome to the fallout
Welcome to resistance
The tension is here
The tension is here
Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be
Yeah
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before
Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?
Where you gonna go?
Salvation is here
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself
To lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened before
The song "Dare You To Move" by Switchfoot is a powerful anthem for those who feel stuck in life, like they're not sure what the next step is or how to move forward. The opening lyrics "Welcome to the planet, welcome to existence" are a reminder that we are all here for a reason, and that we are all in this together. The repetition of "Everybody's watching you now, everybody waits for you now" creates a sense of expectation and pressure that many people can relate to.
The chorus of "I dare you to move" is a challenge to the listener to take action, to do something that they may have been afraid to do before. The next line "I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor" is a call to action, to rise above the obstacles in one's life and to take control of their own destiny. The repetition of "like today never happened, today never happened before" reinforces the idea of a fresh start, a new day where anything is possible.
The second verse of the song shifts to a more introspective tone, with the lyrics "Welcome to the fallout, welcome to resistance, the tension is here, the tension is here". This could be interpreted as a reflection on the challenges and struggles we all face in life, and how we must learn to cope with them. The lines "Between who you are and who you could be, between how it is and how it should be" highlight the struggle between accepting oneself as they are, and striving towards a better version of oneself.
The bridge of the song provides a glimmer of hope, with lines like "Maybe redemption has stories to tell, maybe forgiveness is right where you fell, where you gonna go, where you gonna go, salvation is here". These lyrics suggest that even when you feel stuck and lost, there is still the possibility of redemption and forgiveness, and that salvation is always within reach.
Overall, "Dare You To Move" is a song that resonates with many people because of its message of hope and encouragement. It speaks to the struggles of everyday life and provides a challenge to take action and move forward.

@@MovedByBeauty earth etymology = ard, art, art, earth. = Tart, tartaria (old name for earth), tartarus, tartaros (old name for hell).
In hell you die and keep coming back. on earth you die and get reincarnated over and over again for endless suffering. everyone is out for themselves when it comes down to it. love is not unconditional. It has conditions.
People love their own kids because they are their kids. That's a condition. We live in a world where parents kill children and children kill parents daily.
A world where a father abuses his own daughter. A mother sleeps with her own daughters husband. This world is hell and nothing more.
I dont care about the few good moments hell has to offer. It's still hell

This is the first song that came on the radio on the way home with my newborn son. How's that timing?
"Welcome to the planet, welcome to existence,
everyone is here, everyone's here
everybody is watching you now,
everybody waits for you now,
what happens next?
what happens next?"
I love you my son.

be guided,
be saved,

@@yardchef9661 The deeper purpose indeed. Faith in the truth is necessary and glorious. it makes us able to hold forth a new standard of the man's kind. Faith is a judge to all. A sword of judgement, dividing good from evil, and a weapon to deliver it's edge should we need it too. Especially because we who are new, are already judged with the same Sword. And found righteous by it, and doing so by our faith in Christ who was destroyed on across to take our doom under it. Because he had nothing to pay for, unlike us.
But, there are two other vital things necessary be fully using their new life. And one is love. And the other hope.
Love matters because without it you are going to find it impossible to care about vital aspects of the faith you might have. You really can't want to give others the truth of your standard, so that you desire others wellbeing, and so desire the are bettered in that truth. If only for care of their edification alone. Unselfish and loving as a fundamental basis first. Guiding your faith, so that you can see more, and understand Gods ways which makes you able to be ontrack in your faith more often.
Then there is hope. Hope is faith sustaining. Hope is understanding the place you are now. Your mission, your thoughts, your life and faith and love. The scheme woven by God's plan to redeem man. You do so by understanding and keeping your eyes on the future. On how things were, andwhat that meant to our forbears. And on the other side, we know our future is assured in heavy. That the time we are hear for is the literal beginning of you new eternal life. This allows you understand our mission after the victory by Christ. Our calling to this body of Christ to deliver the good news. To be ambassadors forChrist. To fight here, not for victory, but for the process of salvage of any man who believes. makes this seem so rare and precious in this twilight age, as powerful spiritually as we will be while in Heaven with Christ some day. But with the mandate to use that power, t protect and save all men, which occasionally requires it's cutting, but just as likely giving sight to bolster and show tuth here. That's what it is to be here now. Which is a tiny bit of time here. With astoundingly amazing and wonderful prizes to be won. The eternal souls, and total redemption which you could never have paid for by yourself.
Anyway. Hopefully that was coherent. It's is a sense I have been starting to see more and more. And is an answer to many weaknesses I've witnessed, and wanted to address in my life, but was unsure how too.

I was a 11 year old kid, homeless, living in a grandfather home they called it. We had to spend Christmas there me and my 2 older twin brothers who aren't with us anymore. I got 1 gift that year and it was from the rich guy who ran the grandfather home. It was Switchfoot: The Beautiful Letdown album. I use to lay in my bed under the covers and listen to this song and cry a lot. I've never told anyone that. Not even my wife. Song gives me inspiration when I need it. Thank you guys
@Patrick_Cooper
God bless you. You made it through. So many have been left behind like so much old letters, loves, or songs. Songs like this make me feel hopeful, but sad. When will the end of pain come. Both physical and mental. And crying is so under rated. Cry your angst out to God if you believe, or just to the air. Cry, because it is Gods gift to us to relieve stress and sorrow. Don't hold back, it is our sorrow trying to die. Cry and then let it go...
