Sykurmolarnir Lyrics

Björk
This wasn't supposed to happen
I was happy by myself
Accidentally you seduced me
I'm in love again

I lie in my bed, Totally still
My eyes wide open, I'm in rapture
I don't believe this, I'm in love again!

This wasn't supposed to happen
I've been hit with your charm
How could you do this to me?
I'm in love again

I lie in my bed - totally still,
My eyes wide open - I'm in rapture.
I don't believe this, I'm in love again

This wasn't supposed to happen!
This wasn't supposed to happen!

Eg og hann, ég og hann...

Einar
A small story which never happened
I said ouch! this really hurts!
That can't be this has been
Practised for millions of years
Therefore we are
Yes, but I, I'm a boy

A small story which always happens
I said ouch! this really hurts!
This could well be
But this has
Been practised for millions of years
Therefore we are
Yes, but, you're a girl!

Björk
I lie in my bed - totally still
My eyes wide open - I'm in rapture
I don't believe this - I'm in love again

This wasn't supposed to happen!

I lie in my bed - totally still
My eyes wide open - I'm in rapture
I'm in rapture
You've put a seed inside me
Oh, and while you're away
Seed
It's growing silently
To be a life
Starts in my stomach
Embraces my insides
Inside
And about to reach my heart

This wasn't supposed to happen!
This wasn't supposed to happen!

Eg og hann, ég og hann...

Einar
This really hurts!

Overall Meaning

Sykurmolarnir's song Hit is a duet between Björk and Einar and has an upbeat and catchy melody. The lyrics describe the unexpected and overwhelming feeling of falling in love again. Björk sings from the perspective of someone who has been happy being single but is seduced by the charm of another person. She describes lying in her bed, totally still, with her eyes wide open, feeling rapture and disbelief. The repetition of "This wasn't supposed to happen" emphasizes her surprise and emphasizes the suddenness of her emotions.

Einar's verses contrast with Björk's joyful emotions, describing the pain and struggle of practising relationships for millions of years. He acknowledges the biological differences between men and women, and the tension that can arise between genders when they pursue romantic relationships.

The final bridge of the song ties both perspectives together, with Björk describing the seed of life growing silently inside of her, reaching towards her heart, and Einar repeating the phrase "This really hurts!", perhaps referencing the pain that can come with love and relationships.

As crazy as it sounds, I saw The Sugarcubes and Public Enemy open for U2 on their Zoo TV tour and to this day, it is still the greatest show I have ever seen.

The Sugarcubes sounded like nothing else at the time and 30+ years later. Same. Bjork is irreplaceable and we are so lucky to have her.

@randombro89

Actually, I have to disagree. It sounds like Brit pop. a lot of music sounded like this at the time I know a lot about music

@thomaspotschka5387

Hit and Birthday would also fit to the cure f.e.! But I love björk, no question!

@heatherdolores

@@randombro89this song, maybe..it was popular on alternative/college radio. Some of of their other songs however are uniquely them.

@johnwojciech5245

Agree totally. Had all albums on CD. Tried and tried and tried to "get over it", but sorry, Einar ruined their catalog. IMHO, every song would be better w/o any contribution vocally from him. Back in the day, the radio stations would frequently opine the same thing. Ugh. Re-master?

@randombro89

@@heatherdolores yea i mean just this song only
