It is always a pleasure to read the comments from people that used to rock songs like this. I think we all had similar experiences with living in the 80s and living to the 80s sound. So many good memories pop in my head when I hear this, although I was only 13 when this came out. Thanks for bringing those memories back to mind!

@skurland
Yarncandybycherie 13/14 too when this jam and Everybody Dance were all over urban radio in Philly. Still love the mid-80’s MPLS FUNK sound that dominated music then. Great songs with killer beats, amazing melodies, and talented singers. And to think, I took this kind of music for granted...never thought pop/soul/r&b would turn into the unlistenable mess it has today.

On this day in 1986 {January 11th} Ta Mara and the Seen performed "Everybody Dance" on the ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... At the time "Everybody Dance" was at position #27 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, the following week it would peak at #24 {for 1 week}, and it spent a total of twenty one weeks on the Top 100... It reached #3 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart... And on the same 'Bandstand' show they also performed "Affection", it was track two of side one on their debut album 'Ta Mara and the Seen', the album peaked at #20 on Billboard's Top R&B Albums chart...

ONE IF THE BEST CLASSIC. THINGING ABOUT YOU. CLASSIC SONGS FROM A LEGENDARY BAND. Would love new music from this band with JESSIE as producer.
@raymondludaway2nd146
Prince is underrated as a producer. This song takes me back to the skating rink. Growing up in the 80's was amazing. So many bands with people who could play instruments! Not like today!!!!
@SPAZZOID100
Prince had nothing to do with this group. This is all Jesse Johnson's doing.
@raymondludaway2nd146
Thanks for the heads up. The Time style of music was influenced by Prince.
@josebrown5961
And Prince is far from “underrated” as a producer! His long list of side projects and friends is well known and loved by many. Warner Bros gave him Paisley Park and he had the ability to sign anyone he wanted to, because Warner trusted his ear that much. The other part of the deal was that Warners didn’t have to promote what he did. That is why many of his side projects didn’t take off.
Prince was never “underrated.” I get what you are trying to say. The issue is Prince did too much. For us fans it was cool having a new Prince album every year but in reality he could have slowed up a bit.

I remember this song. Ta Mara & the Seen were part of that Minneapolis music family tree. They were a band intro'd onto the scene courtesy of The Time alumni/guitarist Jesse Johnson if I'm not mistaken (that sound can't be mistaken~~you can hear that musical sound with whomever the guitarist is on this song....if I didn't know better....I'd swear it was Jesse Johnson himself on this song).
