THE NOVEMBERS Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of THE NOVEMBERS' song "pilica" tell a story of two people who sleep entwined and continue dreaming together. The imagery in the lyrics is enchanting, with blue fish swimming around the singer that look like mermaids. The singer speaks about how her body is melting away into foam, which suggests that she is no longer human, but something otherworldly. She says that she cannot return and emphasizes that her pain is always her pain, no one else’s. The singer then says that there’s no need for the singer to bleed, which might suggest she is protecting somebody.

In the second verse, the singer almost sounds like she is on her deathbed. She says she’d like to fill the world up with flowers, any flowers, before she goes. The singer then feels a pang of guilt and says that the singer’s pain is always her pain, too, and he can never truly understand it. Despite this, he still wants to protect her and keep her happy. The singer gazes out the window with a look of satisfaction as rays of light break in behind her.

The last verse suggests that they ran away together, and they don't plan on waiting until tomorrow to leave. The two are running away from something, possibly society’s standards or norms. They are running so fast that the singer can't keep up, and he is left behind. The song leaves the listener with a sense of ambiguity as the lyrics invite a plethora of interpretations.
