Another Fallen Brother
TYR Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Marching on and on
What I used to be
Now seems so long gone
Whether it's right or it's wrong
Cry havoc heathens
Valhalla here comes
Another fallen brother
This day will be my renown
In death I will go down
And we charge across the field
Though the resistance is strong
This is where I belong
For my fate has long been sealed
In the thick of it
Comes our time to die
They have come for us
See them fly up high
Look at me choosers of the slain
Cry havoc heathens
No quarter for the other
Valhalla here comes
Another fallen brother
This day will be my renown
In death I will go down
And we charge 'cross the field
Though the resistance is strong
This is where I belong
For my fate has long been sealed
The song "Another Fallen Brother" by Týr is a tribute to fallen soldiers, particularly those who died in battle, their bravery and honouring their memory. The lyrics describe the weary wanderers marching on relentlessly, and the singer reflecting on what he used to be and how far he has come. Whether it's right or wrong, their hearts are determined to cry havoc and show no mercy to the enemy. They are marching towards Valhalla, the legendary Norse afterlife, where they will reunite with their "fallen brothers". They consider it a matter of pride to fall in battle, and the day they die will be their moment of glory.
The singer acknowledges that death is inevitable, and they will meet their fate on the battlefield. As they charge across the field, the resistance may be strong, but they are undaunted for this is where they belong. They see the enemy flying high and know that their time is coming. The singer calls upon the gods (choosers of the slain) to remember them and take them to Valhalla. The chorus repeats the phrase "cry havoc heathens, no quarter for the other, Valhalla here comes another fallen brother," emphasizing the ruthless, yet fearless attitude of soldiers in battle.
