Ramund Hin Unge
TYR Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ramund var sig en bedre mand
Om han havde bedre klæder
Dronningen gav hannem klæder på stand
Af blågarn, bast og læder
"Sådant vil jeg ikke ha," sagde Ramund.
"Sådant står mig ikke bra," sagde Ramund hin unge

Ramund gik sig ved salten søstrand
Der så han syv jætter stande
"Tager jeg Ramund på min mindste hånd
Og kaster ham langt fra lande"
"Det gør ikke ene du," sagde Ramund
"I må komme alle syv," sagde Ramund hin unge

"Alt står jeg her endnu," sagde Ramund hin unge

At hovedet fløj femten mile

"Jeg mente den ej bed," sagde Ramund
"Dog rinder blodet ned," sagde Ramund hin unge

Overall Meaning

In "Ramund Hin Unge," Týr tells the story of Ramund, a legendary hero who stands up against injustice and tyranny, no matter the consequences. The song starts with Ramund's refusal to wear the clothes given to him by the queen, as he believes they don't suit him. This defiance characterizes Ramund throughout the song as he stands up to seven giants and even the emperor.

The scene shifts to the saltwater shore where Ramund sees seven giants, who boast of their strength and express a desire to throw him into the sea. However, Ramund doesn't back down and instead challenges them to fight him one by one. When they all attack him at once, Ramund skillfully uses his sword, Dymlingen Røde or the Red Jewel, and kills all seven of them while barely receiving a scratch.

The last scene reveals how even the emperor, who witnesses Ramund's feat, is afraid of him but is still unable to resist the challenge. Ramund proceeds to kill the emperor with his other sword, Dymlingen Dyr, or the Beast Jewel, making his head fly fifteen miles away. Even in death, Ramund's message is clear - he won't suffer oppression, and he's ready to fight for his freedom.

Never once have i felt more of a rush when listening to this whilst walking in the penines, singing my heart out ond drinking mead to the shock of multiple onlookers. This is the perfect song for that. I love it, keep it up my dudes.
