Stargazer
TYR Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

High noon, oh I'd sell my soul for water
Nine years worth of breakin' my back
There's no sun in the shadow of the wizard
See how he glides why he's lighter than air

Oh I see his face
Where is your star?
Is it far, is it far, is it far?
When do we leave?
I believe, yes, I believe

In the heat and the rain
With whips and chains
Just to see him fly
So many die

We built a tower of stone
With our flesh and bone
Just to see him fly
Don't know why
Now where do we go?

Hot wind moving fast across the desert
We feel that our time has arrived
The world spins while we put his wing together
A tower of stone to take him straight to the sky

Oh I see his face
Where is your star?
Is it far, is it far, far?
When do we leave? Yeah
I believe, I believe

In the heat and the rain
With the whips and chains
Just to see him fly
Too many die
We built a tower of stone
With our flesh and bone
To see him fly
But we don't know why
Oh now where do we go?

Solo: Heri Joensen
Solo: Terji Skibenæs

All eyes see the figure of the wizard
As he climbs to the top of the world
No sound as he falls instead of rising
Time standing still, then there's blood on the sand

Oh I see his face
Where was your star?
Was it far, was it far?
When did we leave?
We believe, we believe, we believe

In heat and rain
With whips and chains
To see him fly
So many died
We built a tower of stone
With our flesh and bone
Just to see him fly
Don't know why

I see a rainbow rising
Look there, on the horizon
Time is standing still
And give me back my will
My eyes are bleeding
And my heart is weeping

Oh, now where do we go?

Overall Meaning

The song Stargazer by Týr is an epic tale of desperation, faith, and sacrifice told through a fantastical narrative. The lyrics start by painting a picture of a barren landscape where water is scarce and the sun is hidden behind a wizard gliding through the air. The mesmerizing figure of the wizard becomes a beacon of hope for the people who have been working hard for nine years under harsh weather conditions.

The tower of stone they build to launch the wizard into the sky becomes a symbol of their faith in his powers and their willingness to do anything to witness his flight. The chorus expresses the anticipation of their departure to see the wizard's star, which they believe will bring them salvation.

As they build the tower, the wind picks up, and they feel that their time has come. They have put their hearts and souls into constructing the tower, but they still do not know why they are doing it. When the wizard finally climbs to the top of the tower, the world stands still in anticipation, but he falls to his death, and there is blood on the sand.

The song ends with a sense of loss and confusion as the singer wonders where they should go from here. The rainbow rising on the horizon becomes a symbol of hope, but the singer's eyes are bleeding, and his heart is weeping, leaving the listeners to ponder the meaning of the story.

All Day Music

They worked in the drums onto this song excellently.

Also this vocalist has great range. With a little better technique, I think he could be right up there with Dickenson or Hansi Kursch.
