Backdoor
Tadpole Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Now you're coming through the backdoor
How did you get there
Do I mind?
That's a question for the asking
How did you get there
Do I mind?
Will you linger a little longer
While I wonder

Watch me wear my ruse
Awake your world
And run with fools

Now I'm coming through the backdoor
How did I get here
Do I mind?
In an eerie sort of way
I sense you reaching
Do I mind

Will you linger a little longer
While I wonder

Overall Meaning

In Tadpole's song Backdoor, the lyrics appear to be about two people who have unexpected encounters with each other. The opening line "Now you're coming through the backdoor" seems to suggest that this person has entered into the singer's life unexpectedly, possibly uninvited, and they are questioning how they got there. The following line "How did you get there, do I mind?" shows a sense of unease about this person's presence, but the singer is not completely clear if they are bothered by it or not. They want to know more about this person and their intentions before making a decision.

The chorus "Will you linger a little longer while I wonder" highlights the sense of uncertainty and confusion that the singer feels. They seem to be interested in this person, but at the same time, they are aware that they could be getting themselves into a risky situation. The lines "Watch me wear my ruse, awake your world, and run with fools" suggest that the singer is aware that they may be putting on a facade or "ruse" in order to impress this person, even though it may not be genuine.

The second half of the song shifts to the perspective of the singer who is now entering the backdoor themselves. They comment on how they got there, acknowledging that it was unexpected. They seem to have a sense of foreboding, saying "in an eerie sort of way, I sense you reaching, do I mind?" implying that they feel like something is not quite right. However, they still ask the same question "will you linger a little longer while I wonder" suggesting that they are still interested in exploring this mysterious situation despite the fear.
