Enciclopédia do Ser
Tagore Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Na ingratidão do tempo eu pego o passo, eu espero alguém pra me acalmar

Overall Meaning

The first verse of Tagore's song "Enciclopédia do Ser" talks about the negative effects of artificial light on the population, describing it as harmful. The singer then sees a trail in the sky that guides them out of their "quintal," meaning their familiar and confined space. Following this trail leads the singer to question their senses and perception of the world, contemplating whether colors reflect the true nature of things or just create a bucolic atmosphere. The verse ends with a strong statement against capturing parrots, which is seen as an illegal and immoral act.

The second verse talks about the concept of free will and how it relates to normality. The singer contemplates the subjectivity of perception, stating that cold can be beige and green can be hot. They also mention waiting for someone to calm them down in the face of the ingratitude of time. However, the singer is still controlled by a wave of thought that makes them ponder the act of thinking itself.

The final line of the song is a warning to the listener, stating that 10,000 new avenues are being drowned by the sea, meaning that the world is changing fast, and it's important to start valuing one's life and reflecting on their actions.
