Tamaryn’s first two full-lengths stood out in a crowd of shoegaze/ethereal revivalists as much for what they were (careful, gorgeous, thrilling tapestries of guitar-based textures) as what they weren’t (simplistic, trendy, disposable signposts made to be broken). With Cranekiss, Tamaryn emerges from her past in a way that’s inviting, warm-blooded, and shockingly direct. She’s made a big record, loaded with samples, synth triggers and processing that was missing from her previous efforts, the result of long nights grinding it out at the Brooklyn studio Gary’s Electric, where the record was born. The Waves and Tender New Signs focused on the sounds Tamaryn and her group could coax out of guitars, but with Cranekiss her sonic palette has exploded with maniacal abandon, pressed into service of a post-adolescent love letter to all the music that she and her collaborators hold dear, drawing influences from the feelings that fell out of her. Anyone familiar enough with those times should be able to draw their own comparisons, recognizing the modes of musical respect and adoration flashing past as the record spins. From there, though, Tamaryn has modeled these elements into simulacra, where despite the nods and glances to the past, play as a totally new sound.
Lyrically, this is Tamaryn’s most personal collection of songs to date, and Elbrecht has placed her voice front and center across the entire record, elevating her presence like never before. Cranekiss explores dark rock, dance pop, and glistening melancholy with a uniformly commanding presence across it all, in stormy, unsettled brushstrokes that apply pressure behind Tamaryn’s words.
Cranekiss represents a long journey, and a new phase in Tamaryn’s music unfolding before you, a blood-red kaleidoscope of desire and late night abandon, a bold step forward.

Tamaryn Lyrics

No tears of troubles
Taking me over
Dancing to the??? like
It turns me alright, stuck in the long run
Say, say it′s over now
If you say that this will last
I'll be waiting in your past
How long before you rest?
Chase the other right
Won′t save my troubles
They're taking me nowhere
Loving every time you like
I sense you know when to fuck with the moon and
Say, say it's over now
Say, say it′s over now
If you say that this will last
And you play like this will last
I′ll be waiting in your past
How long before you rest?
How long before you rest?
The lyrics of Tamaryn's song "Last" are deeply introspective and reflective on life and its uncertainties. The opening lines "Dreams of human life, No tears of troubles, Taking me over, Dancing to the??? like" suggest the singer's search for meaning and purpose. They are engaging in the pursuit of their dreams and passions, in spite of the troubles that come their way. The line "Dancing to the??? like, It turns me alright, stuck in the long run" implies that the singer is aware of the challenges that come with chasing their dreams, but they choose to push past them.
The chorus of the song, "If you say that this will last, And you play like this will last, I'll be waiting in your past, How long before you rest?", is tinged with sadness and longing. The singer is waiting for someone to commit to them, to assure them that their love will last. They express their willingness to wait, but they also wonder how long they will have to wait before they find peace.
The second verse continues with the theme of the singer's search for fulfillment. "Chase the other right, Won’t save my troubles, They’re taking me nowhere, Loving every time you like" suggests that the singer has been chasing after things that may not be bringing them any closer to their goals. Nonetheless, they are grateful for every moment spent with someone they love.
Overall, "Last" is a song about the struggles of finding purpose and meaning in life, the difficulties of chasing one's dreams, and the longing for love that endures.

Dreams of your new life
No tears or troubles
Taking me over
Dancing to the tune I like
It turns me around
Stuck in a locked groove
Say
Saying “It’s over now”
If you say that this will last
And we play like this will last
I’ll be waiting in your past
Hang up before you leave
Chase another line
Won’t save my troubles
They’re taking me nowhere
Laughing any time you lie
I sense you know when
To fuck with a moment
Say
Saying “It’s over now”
If you say that this will last
And we play like this will last
I’ll be waiting in your past
Hang up before you leave
@AKHETAMEN
This song changed music for me. I feel I’m marooned in a deserted island, almost in the afternoon, clear skies, piercing sun. I find an abandoned car, with the keys on, I don’t know how to drive but I make it work... I turn the car on, I start driving 200 mph in an empty endless forgotten street covered in sand and dust, lifting it up as I pass, creating a suspended trail as if in slow motion with the wind in my hair and face
