Radio Ga Ga
Taylor Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'd sit alone and watch your light
My only friend through teenage nights
cnd everything I had to know
I heard it on my radio
You gave them all those old time stars
Through wars of worlds invaded by Mars
You made 'em laugh, you made 'em cry
You made us feel like we could fly (radio)
So don't become some background noise
c backdrop for the girls and boys
Who just don't know, or just don't care
cnd just complain when you're not there
You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Radio (radio)
cll we hear is radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
cll we hear is radio ga ga
Radio blah blah
Radio, what's new?
Radio, someone still loves you
We watch the shows, we watch the stars
On videos for hours and hours
We hardly need to use our ears
How music changes through the years
Let's hope you never leave, old friend
Like all good things, on you we depend
So stick around, 'cause we might miss you
When we grow tired of all this visual
You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Radio (radio)
cll we hear is radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
cll we hear is radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
cll we hear is radio ga ga
Radio blah blah
Radio, what's new?
Someone still loves you
Radio ga ga (radio ga ga)
Radio ga ga (radio ga ga)
Radio ga ga (radio ga ga)
You had your time, you had the power

You've yet to have your finest hour
Radio (radio)

Overall Meaning

In Taylor's song "Radio Ga Ga," the lyrics express a sense of nostalgia and longing for the power and influence of radio. The opening lines, "I'd sit alone and watch your light, My only friend through teenage nights," suggest a deep connection and reliance on the radio during the formative years. The radio served as a source of information, entertainment, and emotional connection, being the means through which the singer "heard it all."

The song pays tribute to the radio's ability to captivate and engage listeners, as evidenced by the lines, "You made 'em laugh, you made 'em cry, You made us feel like we could fly." It highlights how the radio became a companion and a lifeline, transporting individuals to different worlds and emotions. However, as technology evolved and visual mediums emerged, the radio began to lose its prominence. The lyrics caution against relegating the radio to background noise and not appreciating its significance, urging the listeners to recognize its value.

The chorus, "Radio ga ga, Radio goo goo, Radio blah blah, Radio, what's new? Someone still loves you," conveys a plea for the continued relevance and importance of radio in a visually-dominated world. It emphasizes that despite the changes, there are still those who cherish the power and influence of the radio.

Roger’s voice is criminally underrated

RuunteKnuut

I've heard so many people say that so I don't think it's true

The Respected Lex

He's similar to Rod Stewart, but Queen.

Chris James

Do you actually believe that. Because Roger is one of the most famous vocalists of the 70s/80s 😂😭🥱

CoolManMark

I love what he sings too we are all worthless zombies 😂

David J Meek

Its never been under-rated, its always been the heart of Queen

John Cole

A Drummer with a better singing voice than most lead singers.

Lee Robson

I saw Roger in Bath on Monday. I nearly fell off the circle balcony when I heard him singing. Why the hell is Adam Lambert still poncing about with Queen when this guy is real rock and roll and not musical theatre?

When Warren starting singing Freddie’s intro to Prime Jive I thought Mercury had been reincarnated.

And Rog’s voice is still amazing. 72 years old. Phenomenal.

Joseph Woodbury

@Lee Robson I have been wondering the same thing. I'm like "Dudes! You have a singer right behind you, and you pick Adam Lambert? Really?!

einShawn

@Joseph Woodbury theoretically they have 2 singers, Brian and Roger so no need for Adam
