Heartless
Taylor John Williams Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The doctor said come back again next week, I think that you need me
All she did was cry
She wanted to die doctor when can you see me
There's a guy out there
Seems like he's everywhere
It just ain't fair

Heartless heartless, never out of control
Heartless heartless, sin in the name of rock and roll
Heartless heartless, he thinks it's so cool to be cold
Never realize the way love dies when you crucify it's soul

Late night in the penthouse room, the fire is burning
Shadows are warm, laying in his arms she answers his yearning
Her eyes are filled with sand

Heartless heartless, never out of control
Heartless heartless, sin in the name of rock and roll

Heartless heartless, he thinks it's so cool to be cold
Never realize the way love dies when you crucify it's soul

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Taylor John Williams's song "Heartless" describe the pain and heartbreak caused by a cruel and indifferent lover. The singer is seeking help from a doctor to deal with their emotional turmoil, but their pleas are met with apparent indifference. The object of the singer's affection is described as being everywhere, causing extra pain and torment. Despite this, the lover appears to be desirable and irresistible to the singer, leading them into the trap of a passionate but ultimately destructive relationship. The lyrics lament the way love can be cast aside and destroyed when someone is so heartless and cruel.

The use of metaphors in the lyrics is powerful and meaningful. The image of the "sin in the name of rock and roll" indicates the self-destructive nature of this heartless person's behavior, and how it is often glamorized and celebrated, leading to more pain and devastation. The reference to "crucify[ing] its soul" highlights the idea that love, like a living being, can be hurt and damaged beyond repair when treated carelessly and thoughtlessly. The imagery of the fire and shadows in the penthouse room adds to the sense of passion and danger, suggesting that the singer is drawn to the flames of this destructive love despite the risks.

How could you be so, cold as the winter wind when it breeze, yo
Just remember that you talkin' to me though
You know need to watch the way you talkin' to me, yo
I mean after all the things that we've been through
I mean after all the things we got into
Hey yo, I know of some things that you ain't told me
Hey yo, I did some things but that's the old me
And now you wanna get me back and you goin' show me
So you walk around like you don't know me
You got a new friend, well I got homies
But in the end it's still so lonely
In the night, I hear 'em talk
The coldest story ever told
Somewhere far along this road, he lost his soul to a woman so heartless
How could you be so heartless?
Oh, how could you be so heartless?
How could be so Dr. Evil, you bringin' out a side of me that I don't know
I decided we weren't goin' speak so
Why we up three A.M. on the phone
Why does she be so mad at me for
Homie I don't know, she's hot and cold
I won't stop, I won't mess my groove up
Cause I already know how this thing go
You run and tell your friends that you're leaving me
They say that they don't see what you see in me
You wait a couple months then you gon' see
You'll never find nobody better than me
In the night, I hear 'em talk
The coldest story ever told
Somewhere far along this road, he lost his soul to a woman so heartless
How could you be so heartless?
Oh, how could you be so heartless?
Talkin', talkin', talkin', talk
Baby let's just knock it off
They don't know what we been through
They don't know 'bout me and you
So I got something new to see
And you just goin' keep hatin' me
And we just goin' be enemies
I know you can't believe
I could just leave it wrong
And you can't make it right
I'm goin' take off tonight
Into the night
In the night, I hear 'em talk
The coldest story ever told
Somewhere far along this road, he lost his soul to a woman so heartless
How could you be so heartless?
Oh, how could you be so heartless?🎤🎶

Should’ve won The Voice ffs! 😤 I mean seriously tho, even after all this time……I’m still bitter. I just feel like even if judged solely by his voice(no pun intended btw😏) he still should have went way further than he made it. But then add in who’s the better “artist” of that season and it’s not even close!?
My dude was sooo freaking talented, like he made most of / all of the songs his own in one way or another! I’m not saying that they were all masterpieces oss but I’m also not exaggerating one bit when I say that I not only enjoyed every one of his renditions/versions of the songs but all of his performances of them as well. Which is quite the rarity considering that he and (for the most part) the other contestants on the show aren’t even remotely close to being “ professional “ singer/songwriters!

Idk how they can even manage to talk, let alone sing &/or play an instrument ffs⁉️😱🫣😟

I had to audition for a “musical” summer camp (you know…like that “camp rock” on Disney or wtf ever it’s called 🙄except a way shittier version but even worse, we’re talking about the 90’s here🤦‍♀️) anyways…I had to audition in front of like 5 ppl 😳& even tho I got through it fine then there was the “musical/play” at the end of the camp that was in front of about 150 ish ppl and I thought I was having a heart attack…at 9-10 years old😳 so yeah If I had a damn panic attack as a kid, when typically you don’t really give a shit! I can’t even imagine how bad it’d be as an adult. Yet these guys are performing for millions, and even tho it’s not “in real time” (or at least at the beginning) they are just a few feet away from these mega-stars ffs! 😰
…..yeah, uhh…..NOPE 😳😨🥵🥶😰😵‍💫😵🤮

😉👍
