Taylor Swift Lyrics
Friday night beneath the stars
In a field behind your yard
You and I are painting pictures in the sky
Sometimes we don't say a thing
Just listen to the crickets sing
Everything I need is right here by my side
And I know everything about you
I don't wanna live without you
Don't wanna fly if you're still on the ground
It's like no matter what I do
Well, you drive me crazy half the time
The other half I'm only trying
To let you know that what I feel is true
And I'm only me when I'm with you
Just a small-town boy and girl
Living in the crazy world
Trying to figure out what is and isn't true
And I don't try to hide my tears
My secrets or my deepest fears
Through it all nobody gets me like you do
And you know everything about me
You say that you can't live without me
I'm only up when you're not down
Don't wanna fly if you're still on the ground
It's like no matter what I do
Well, you drive me crazy half the time
The other half I'm only trying
To let you know that what I feel is true
And I'm only me when I'm with you
When I'm with anybody else
It's so hard to be myself
And only you can tell
I'm only up when you're not down
Don't wanna fly if you're still on the ground
It's like no matter what I do
Well, you drive me crazy half the time
The other half I'm only trying
To let you know that what I feel is true
And I'm only me when I'm with you

"the 1" is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift for her eighth studio album "folklore", released on July 24, 2020 by Republic Records. As the opening track of the album, the song was written by Swift and Aaron Dessner, with production from the latter. "The 1" is a bouncy, minimal and electronic song with slow danceability, written from the perspective of a friend of Swift. In the song, the narrator describes their newborn positive approach to life and past romance, in a sad but humorous tone, using one-liners.

According to me, this song is about a woman who is looking back on a relationship that ended. The woman seems to moved on from the pain of the loss, but still wonders how they could have come close to a lifetime together and parted ways. As she's speaking to her ex-lover, she wants to know if there's anything she could have done differently to keep them together.
The first verse she tells her ex-lover that she's doing well and learning to live her life to the fullest (Been saying "yes" instead of "no") She thinks of him at times, and thought she saw him at the bus stop. "I hit the ground running each night" might mean that while she's enjoying her life, she does notice that she's not doing those things with him. She reflects on their relationship, and decides that just because it didn't work out, doesn't mean their love wasn't worth it.
The pre-chorus she was surprised that they ended but now she has come to terms with it and used the painful experience to grow even more as a person (And if you never bleed, you're never gonna grow)
The chorus she remembers their time together and muses that they "were something" special (But we were something, don't you think so?). If the wishes she had made when they were together had come true, he would have been the one she spent her life with (And if my wishes came true It would have been you). It's unclear if she still wants that. She admits that it's her fault too(In my defense, I have none For never leaving well enough alone). Whether she still wants to be with him or not, she thinks it would have been fun if he had been the one she settled down with, so their story together could go on for the rest of their lives.
The second verse she hopes that he's enjoying his life and moving on too (I have this dream you're doing cool shit)
She thinks that their relationship was worth it even though it ended, by deciding their love was one of the greatest of "all time"(You know the greatest love of all time are over now)
In the bridge she finds it difficult to leave her questions unanswered. Still, she resists, the urge to ask if he thinks that they might still be together if things had happened only a little bit differently.
In the 2nd chorus she admits that she has "no defense" for "digging up the grave" of their love to talk with him, but she keeps thinking about how close they seemingly came to staying together permanently.
Sorry it's a bit long but I found this interesting and wanted to share my thoughts feel free to tell me what you think the song is about and if you want to add something. I didn't see any comment talking about this so if someone has already written it then I'm sorry

This entire album makes me miss people I've never met and feel homesick for places I've never been.

"And if my wishes came true, it would've been you."
Just hits different. Especially when you've experienced a relationship you fell madly in love with someone and then you broke up before it could have been a thing.
