There is no shame in dropping your faith. Faith is believing in something that has no evidence. You are right to question. This is a lovely movie, and a nice fable. But to me, it is like a story about Apollo or some other god. Beautiful movie with moving music. Art evokes strong emotions. But I think "plummeting" faith also means "ascension" into the beauty of reality. Just my humble opinion. Have a great life.

I saw the original Jesus Christ Superstar at the movies when it 1st came out & all these years later Ted Neeley can still hold that high note so beautifully like he did years & years ago. The most perfect & iconic performance showing Jesus's human side, Ted Neeley gave so much justice in this scene not to mention some if his scenes in the entire film. He showed frustration, disappointment, sadness, anger, then submission and acceptance of his destiny and the culmination of his reason for being here on earth. This is the most passionate and incredible performance I have ever seen in my life. I saw the movie at least 10 times in the theatre when it was released in 1973 (I had the biggest crush on Ted Neely!) and as I have grown in my faith in Jesus, this performance holds even more weight with me. I'd just turned 14 when this movie came to the movie theaters. I went with my best friend and her mother managed to make us miss the bus. I remember being freakishly adamant that we were not going to miss this movie and devised a plan for the to "run-walk" the many blocks to the movie theater (run one block, then walk one block, etc.). We somehow made it on time and I remember begin absolutely rapt through the entire movie. It had a huge effect on me that I easily remember to this day at the age of 63. (I got a big crush on Ted Neely too!).

I saw Ted Neely on stage still playing this part about 6 years ago. I was told that he was only a shadow of the man he once was,…. But that wasn’t entirely true, though 45 years later he didn’t have the same power or physique of his younger self, he still had the same presence and could still hit those same high notes. I love musicals, particularly from the 60's & 70's.
Amongst all the songs of all the musicals I love nothing comes close to this performance!
Ted Neeley gives his all to every word of every line, wether it's soft & gentle or screaming "Wwhhhhyyyyyyyyyy?" that man elevates this song so much!

Ted Neely and Carl Anderson give the world two of the all time great performances in a movie and/or stage in Jesus Christ Superstar.They took their great talent from the stage to the big screen and blew everyone away. I remember going to see Jesus Christ Superstar with my mother brother and sisters. My father refused to go because he thought it blasphemy. After all these years this song means so much to me.

I grew up in a materialist, atheist family. But my mother loved this musical, because it was the part of her youth ages. So she shown it to me when I was 6 years old. I was charmed, and listening this song, I cried and cried and asked, who was this beautiful and kind man, and why was he killed? So has it begun, my way towards God... (Bogi from hungary)

I remember this song but not much else. Bought the DVD and now I find it to be a fantastic interpretation of the last days of Jesus. Especially in this song, you see the human side of Jesus, scared of what He knows is to come. Usually only the divine side of Jesus is ever shown in movies, etc. I like this human side - after all He was not only divine, He was human - making the pain & suffering He sees ahead of Him terrifying. But, in the end, He submits to God's will and shows determination in seeing it thru. Not blasphemous to me at all.....

In the seventies, I was at the movie theater watching this movie. During this song, I hear this lady behind me saying to her companion: "Omg, he looks exactly as Jesus!" Neeley is really convincing.

Anyone who ever felt this mix of abandonment and uncertainty connects emotionally with Jesus's very human struggle at this moment, at the end he comes to terms with the sacrifice he has to make. This scene is special to me, it even got me through depression at some point in my life, Ted Neely has a special place in my heart for this awesome performance.

I was 14 in 1973. Not religious but the story told and the melodies and lyrics are haunting, powerful and they ROCK! I've owned the soundtrack in every format. GREAT road trip sing along album. My son grew up loving it as much as I did. Both atheists but the story is beautifully told. The original cast with Neely and Carl Anderson as Judas. Does not get better than this. We see it as the telling of a myth.
