Overall Meaning

The lyrics of TeddyLoid's song ME!ME!ME! feat. daoko are quite complex and contain some symbolism. The opening line "yūjūfudan no sanbutsu ka na" refers to the Buddhist concept of the three treasures (sanbutsu) which are the Buddha, the Dharma (teachings), and the Sangha (community). The line translates to "I wonder if I have these three treasures." This can be interpreted as the singer questioning their own value and purpose in life.

The following lines "jōzu ni ikiru hinto oshiete yo yanwari funwari oburāto ni sugu tsutsumu musū no utsu tsu" can be interpreted as a request for guidance on how to live life successfully. The use of the words "yanwari funwari" and "oburāto" imply a sense of uncertainty and instability, which contrasts with the desire for a clear and concise solution.

The chorus of the song, "usabarashi ni uta o utau hibi wa utakata ni kimi wa inai inai na 'kirakira no shunkan' omoidasu wa kimi no nioi" talks about the memories of a past love, a love that is now gone. The use of the word "usabarashi" implies a sense of melancholy and longing for something that has disappeared. The lyrics go on to talk about a particular moment that was special and memorable, but it is now just a memory. The last line of the chorus, "koko de matteru" suggests that the singer is waiting for something or someone, perhaps the person they are singing about.

Overall, the lyrics of ME!ME!ME! are quite complex and open to interpretation. They touch on themes of uncertainty, longing, and memories of love lost.

As I listened to this more and more, I thought I should type the lyrics here because I was bored. I have altered the words a little for better understanding, so enjoy! P.S. this took me 3 hours :)

[STAGE 1: ADDICTION]
Tell me now, tell me now,
How you felt when we were always together.
Tell me now, tell me now,
Why is my mind always stuck on thinking of you?
All your company, all your times with me,
My feelings for you integrate.
But besides all that, but besides all that,
Come and share with me, I'll display your throbbing dolor.

[STAGE 2: CONSUMPTION]
You told me I'm all yours,
I will become your special little one.
I feel all the pain, all of the hate,
It's building up could I just be a dream.
Are you sure that you have not created,
And molded an idol out of me?
What you see, is it me, seems like a coincidence,
Baby I live your mind's own fantasies.

[STAGE 3: ADDICTION WORSENS]
Slowly as the days and months would fade away as the life of the fruit that will you sway.

Nothing left but disappointment of the life that you lived that you had, it's true.
All it took was just a blow to divide all your days apart, and I'm crying.
Love me, feel me, please come back to me, I'm here, I'm wishing to reset it all.
I'm falling down into the depths and no longer feel I am trapped inside unconsciousness.
I will tell myself that it is gonna be okay, I will sing it out loud but lights are fading out now.

[STAGE 4: REJECTION]
I remember how you smell, It's so sweet.

[STAGE 5: SUFFERING]
Miles and miles away you are still the number one thing on my mind,
Ever since then from that moment I had a dream that the flower that I saw brought you to me.
So please, please remember everything,
That we had once upon a time in our fairy tale dream.
Though it hurts a little more than you thought, I'll be waiting for you.

For some reason, I cannot post all of the lyrics in one comment, so I will type the rest into a reply to this comment with some extra information about each stage in some other replies.

[STAGE 6: FIGHTING ADDICTION ]
Something inside overflowing out now, something inside overflowing out of me.
She really was such a girl to be around, she really was a pleasant girl.
She really was such a girl to be around, she really was a pleasant girl.
Something inside overflowing out now, something inside overflowing out of me.
Oh, how lovely, once again we're so close, love.
Oh, how lovely, once again we're so close, love.

[STAGE 7: INSPIRATION]
This is your chance now to change your whole life, but will you?
Cause now's your time to make decisions count, so will you?

[STAGE 8: FINAL BATTLE]
Anything you do to change your life is a waste, you're a loser and you wont go far.
All this fear, it builds inside, accumulates, fogging your mind.
Recall all the times in the past as they start to overlap and begin to crash.
Now she's a sweetie but you're feeling envy growing, this is fun.
Trying your best isn't always enough, what's the plan for you, can I call your bluff?
I await the day when you realize that it's all in your head.
You have no where to hide, right by your side,
I'm right by your side, I'm not leaving for I loved you oh so much.

[STAGE 9: THE CYCLE CONTINUES...]
Hey, hey look, hi, ah, hey, hey look, hi.
Hey, hey look, hi, look at the sky for you're all mine, goodbye for now.

For anyone who doesn't know what this song was, it was a critique on the 'otaku' problem in Japan and the struggle they progress through as they continue to live that lifestyle. As shown, I have split this into 9 different stages and I will provide a rough summary for each stage.

@KitsuneFutekina

Stage 1: Addiction. This is the start of this whole cycle. It is the main reason why this is a problem and it is difficult to escape this cycle as shown in later stages.

Stage 2: Consumption. When you get too addicted, it begins to consume you and your addiction deepens, further increasing the difficulty to escape.

Stage 3: Addiction Worsens. This is simply what addiction does to you. It consumes you more and more until it gets worse and worse to the point of no return.

Stage 4: Rejection. This is exactly as the name suggests. The 'otaku' shown in the video struggles to stay with his girlfriend because of his addiction so they break up.

Stage 5: Suffering. An otaku lifestyle is a hard one and it comes with many downsides, such as the detriment of their social skills. This was illustrated better in the lost video here on YouTube but after the otaku's breakup, his suffering worsens as well and his girlfriend turns into a creature-like version of herself.

@KitsuneFutekina

Stage 6: Fighting Addiction. The 'otaku' gets motivated to try to stop his addiction and tries to fight against it to stop it. This was perfectly illustrated as the otaku is shown in a first person type of perspective, like a video game, while he shot the 'enemies' which were shown as many clones of his girlfriend.

Stage 7: Inspiration. This happens right before the final battle which is part of the same section in the song, but I decided to split them into different stages as it made more sense to me. The lyrics are sung as if she was speaking to his now ex-boyfriend directly and I took this as him being inspired for his final fight with her.

Stage 8: Final Battle. Inspired, he tries his best to fight against the 'evil girlfriends' but in the end, he ultimately loses as he is overwhelmed by them. His memories of his girlfriend are shattered, sending him to the next stage.

Stage 9: The Cycle Continues. As he is being overwhelmed, the scene is illustrated with the otaku's head slowly floating to the ground and then it zooms in to show his face in the exact same position as it was in the very beginning of the music video.

I hope this helped anyone who didn't know the (roughly) true meaning of this song!

TD;DR: An 'otaku' tries to stop his addiction but trying to do so only makes things worse. He had a girlfriend but eventually doesn't want anything to do with her anymore and ends up in the same place where he started, caught in the perpetual cycle that cannot be broken.

@kivi9_9

I honestly love the theory that it's about a girl who loved a guy who became too obsessed with porn (fictional or real - doesn't matter)/an otaku (a hardcore one). We also get some of it from the song itself. In the video we clearly see how the guy enjoys it, but after it all turnes into some madness which is shown to "destroy" him. We also see the girl - his girlfriend on her knees, begging him to stay with her insted of that crazy world/blue haired girl(porn). We see flashbacks of them being happy together, and then come back to his room. He's alone, with some sexualised figures and posters. And after he wakes up his creepy obsession "comes" for him and takes him back. He tries to fight it to save both himself and his girlfriend - most likely her image that he loved before. The image of real her. But his porn addiction makes it impossible, and in my opinion the fight with these girls to get to his girlfriend was a try to stop watching porn and get back to reality, but he couldn't. His obsession wins and he literally "loses his head". In the end of the MV we could also hear his ex-girlfriend saying "good bye". So I think it's a decent theory.

Some phrases I'd like to use as a base for all of this (I won't write them word to word, just the main meaning):

Tell me now, how you felt when we were together, tell me why do I always think of you? - refers to the girlfriend always thinking of the boy even tho he doesn't spend his time with her anymore.

You told me I will become your little one - imo refers to simple sayings that lovers tell each other: you're my baby, you're the only one I need etc.

Are you sure you haven't created and molded an idol out of me? What you see, is it me? - refers to the fact that the guy can't look at his girlfriend without comparing her to his new obsession (let's say the blue haired girl who's the definition of porn here) and he can't see his girlfriend the way he used to.

It took a blow to divide our days together - refers to the thing that his porn obsession separated them.

Love me, feel me, please come back to me, I'm here - is the girl's cry to the guy. She loves him and wants him back.

I wish to reset it - refers to the girls wish of going back and stopping him at the very beginning.

I still remember your sent - might be that the girl doesn't let him contact with her physically because she's afraid of what he can do or that he's the one who doesn't want to touch her because she's not a porn star/his perfect idol etc.

Please remeber what we had in our fairytale - refers to the girl wanting the guy to remember what they both were used to be - a happy couple from a "fairytale".

I'll be waiting for you even tho it hurts - same here. The girls loves him and doesn't want to let go.

The big "bass" part is the moment where the girl finally breaks and lets all the anger to overflow her.

This is the choice to change your life. It's the time to make decisions. But will you? (+The last messy part) - are her final words to the guy, as she sees that she can't help him anymore, so she just leaves, leaving him alone in his room, where he wakes up right after her saying final goodbyes.

I'm hapy she left him tbh, she deserves better.

@AmSeris

Not to be that guy but the last part is completely wrong. She's not speaking English.

She says
"Eien no ai wa
Mede no naka
Eien no ai wa
Tashikani
Dokoni mo
Mo nai"

Which roughly translates to
"Eternal love
only exists in distress
Eternal love
certainly
doesn’t exist
anywhere anymore"

it is ironic how the original animation is remembered as horny weeb cringe when it’s literally about the dangers of porn addiction and otaku culture

@agiyx8591

More like general addictions. It wasnt limited to one of them. Had many scenes refering to various.

@angelofelix7474

That was the whole premise of the song and video lol

@simonizquierdocarrasco7099

I don't think anyone remembers it as that bud

@adish1401

I don't think that it's remembered for that. Though a lot of people ended up making horny animations to the song missing the whole point, I don't think that's the entire legacy.

@cookie5konster838

Probably not the most efficient way to go about it

@DarkDeviDevil

It’s sad that this lyrics is about a girl who fell in love with a man who’s addicted to porn and his views about his girlfriend have changed about her to the point of it not being real. She tries to help him but he’s too far gone at that point, so she leaves him at the end.

@apricoticpeaches

DANG

@t3k9in3

this is actually not what it's about at all

@f11prooppo-fg1bw

Nah its was about an otaku
