no the moon
Teen Suicide Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The sun is hidden
Behind the clouds
The sun goes down
I see it fall

I write your name
At the grocery store
I want to see
What it′s like to be you

I'm lying down
It′s raining now
When things are gone
You can't have them back

I close my eyes
It's late at night

I hope I won′t
Have that dream again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Teen Suicide's "No the moon" describe a sense of longing and loss. The opening lines, "The sun is hidden/Behind the clouds/The sun goes down/I see it fall," set a somber tone as the sun disappears from view. The singer then writes their crush's name at the grocery store, indicating a desire to step into their shoes and experience life from their perspective.

The song takes a particularly melancholy turn as the singer lies down as the rain falls. The line "When things are gone/You can't have them back" speaks to the pain of loss and the impossibility of reversing time. The final line, "I hope I won't/Have that dream again," is indicative of a recurring nightmare or past trauma that haunts the singer.

The last thing my daughter posted on her Instagram before she took her own life was "Meet me on the moon". That was 2 and a half years ago but I will never unsee what I saw when I walked in and found her gone. The image is seared into my brain and I see it vividly any time my eyes close. She had no idea the hole that she would leave in our lives. If only I had known how much pain she was in, but she never told me. I beg you, if you're hurting PLEASE tell someone. You're worth being here, more than you can possibly imagine.
