Turn It Up
Texas Hippie Coalition Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Little Sarah was from Texas
She was the preacher's daughter
She never practiced much of those things her father taught her
One night at Vinnie's clubhouse
She heard some Texas music
She started dancin' sexy and takin' clothes off to it

Gotta have it!
Addicted!
Gotta have it!

Come on, come on, come on, come on, turn it up!
Come on, come on, come on, come on, turn it up!
Come on, let's turn it up louder
Come on, come on, come on, come on, turn it up!
Come on, come on, come on, come on, turn it up!
Come on, let's turn it up louder
Turn it up!

Darlin Nikki was from Detroit
She drove a beat up caddie
She never ever needed any old sugar daddy
She worked the strip club circuit
Their called her darlin' honey
She started dancin' dirty and takin' all their money

Gotta have it!
Addicted!
Gotta have it!

Come on, come on, come on, come on, turn it up!
Come on, come on, come on, come on, turn it up!
Come on, let's turn it up louder
Come on, come on, come on, come on, turn it up!
Come on, come on, come on, come on, turn it up!
Come on, let's turn it up louder

I will not ask you again
Won't you please turn it up
Turn it up!

Please, won't you
Turn it up!
Turn it up louder!

Turn it up!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Texas Hippie Coalition's "Turn It Up" are about two women, Little Sarah and Darlin Nikki, who have been brought together by their love of Texas music and dancing. Little Sarah is being described as a preacher's daughter who has never really embraced her father's teachings until she hears Texas music at Vinnie's clubhouse. She then finds herself dancing seductively and taking her clothes off to the music. Meanwhile, Darlin Nikki is from Detroit and works as a stripper. Even though she drives a "beat up Caddie," she doesn't need a sugar daddy because her work allows her to make her own money. She too is drawn to the music and starts dancing dirtily and taking all their money. The seemingly innocent Little Sarah and the seasoned stripper Darlin Nikki both surrender to the power of the music and give in to their respective pleasures.

The lyrics of "Turn It Up" seem to celebrate the joys of living life on one's own terms and indulging in one's pleasures, even if it means going against the expectations of others. This is exemplified by both Little Sarah and Darling Nikki, who have both broken free from their previous lives and found liberation in their love of Texas music and dancing.

My daughter is 25 now, but me and her saw Iron Maiden on her 16th birthday. Then when she was 20 she surprised me with tickets and took me to see them again for father's Day... The family that Rocks together, stays together
