don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me
The Andrews Sisters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wrote my mother
I wrote my father
And now I'm writing you too
I'm sure of mother
I'm sure of father
Now I wanna be sure of you

Don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me
Anyone else but me, anyone else but me
No! No! No!
Just remember that I've been true to nobody else but you
So just be true to me

Don't go walking down lovers' lane with anyone else but me
Anyone else but me, anyone else but me
No! No! No!
Don't start showing off all your charms in somebody else's arms
You must be true to me
I'm so afraid that the plans we made underneath those moonlit skies
Will fade away and you're bound to stray if the stars get in your eyes
So, don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me
You're my L-O-V-E.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Andrews Sisters' song "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree (With Anyone Else but Me)" convey a sense of loyalty and devotion between two lovers. The singer has written letters to their mother and father, assuring them of their faithfulness, and now they want to be certain of their partner's loyalty as well. The song urges the partner not to engage in romantic or physical intimacy with anyone else, emphasizing the importance of staying true to each other.

The imagery of sitting under an apple tree symbolizes a romantic and secluded setting in which couples may gather. By requesting their partner not to sit under the apple tree with anyone else, the singer emphasizes their desire for exclusive commitment. The song also warns against walking down "lovers' lane" with someone else, suggesting that the partner should not engage in romantic activities or pursue other potential partners.

The lyrics express a fear that the plans and promises made under the moonlit skies could fade away if either party strays from their commitment. The mention of "the stars get in your eyes" suggests that temptation and distractions may lead to infidelity. Ultimately, the singer wants their partner to remain true and faithful, reinforcing the idea that their love and loyalty should be reciprocated.

Overall, the song captures the essence of a committed and faithful relationship, highlighting the importance of trust and devotion.

WHAT A WONDERFUL FUNERAL IDEA!

No matter what age, in your mind you'll always be 25 - 35. Meaning, you're stuck with the best years in your life.
So your Grandmother wanted to strutt that swing again, like she HOPEFULLY did, when she was a pretty, young and (as every young girl) vain CHICK😃❣️
Tragic is, the whole world was at war then!
We as the postwar born should never forget!
But your Nan NAILED it by ordering: "Listen to MY favourite music!"
I think it is a lovely way to give a last heritage to the next Generation.

Thank you very much for your story!🙏
Btw.: I'm German.

If you listen to other sibling groups, you will notice the same. Siblings have similar voices.

The Everly brothers,
Shangri-las (two sets of sisters)
the Isley Brothers
the Ronnetts (two sisters and a cousin)
Boswell sisters...

Listen to them all; it's a "family" thing. There are few family acts today, unfortunately. The Petersens are the only group I know about.

I wrote my Mother, I wrote my Father
And now I'm writing you too
I'm sure of Mother, I'm sure of Father
And now I want to be sure
Very, very sure
Of you

Don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me,
Anyone else but me, anyone else but me, no, no, no
Don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me
Till I come marching home.

Don't go walking down Lovers' Lane with anyone else but me,
Anyone else but me, anyone else but me, no, no, no
Don't go walking down Lovers' Lane with anyone else but me
Till I come marching home

I just got word from a guy who heard
From the guy next door to me
The girl he met just loves to pet
And it fits you to a T
So don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me
Till I come marching home

Don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me
With anyone else but her, no, no, no
Not a single soul but me, no, no, no
Don't you sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me
Not till you see me
Not until you see me marching home
Home, home, home, sweet home

Don't go walking down Lovers' Lane with anyone else but me
With anyone else but her, no, no, no
Not a single soul but me, no, no, no
Don't you go walking down Lovers' Lane with anyone else but me
Not till you see me
Not until you see me marching home
Home, home, home, sweet home
Can't wait till I come marching home

Don't go walking down Lovers' Lane
No walking down Lovers' Lane
Till you see me
When you see me marching home
Then we'll go arm in arm

We'll sit down under the apple tree
Baby just you and me
When I come marching home

My mother used to sing these songs from '30's, '40's and '50's. I sure do miss her. She was born in 1924 and passed in 2015, 6 days before my 53rd birthday. Love you mom!

I love we can see these old films, listen to old music and just able to watch what people before us watched, and listen to what people before us listened to

@Navygrl58

No one harmonized as smoothly as the Andrew Sisters! This was music, real music!👍

@jamesfloyd1864

And their routines were always so much fun to watch. They cheered up a lot of young soldiers and cheered up the world in a time of darkness overseas.

@ams3212

You should check The Puppini Sisters. Kinda the next generation of Andrew Sisters
