We met when we were very young, it was a different kind of love we kept in between the pages of the magazines.
The Aves's song We Were Young seems to be about young love, high school, rebellion and escaping the monotony of everyday life. The first verse describes how the two lovers met when they were young and kept their love hidden away, almost like a secret between them. They barely spoke in science class but found ways to connect by writing notes on paper planes. They longed for something more than their mundane existence.
The chorus is a plea to escape the present situation, to get out of the place they are in, and to do something meaningful for humanity. It seems like they feel trapped by their surroundings and want something more out of life. The following lines describe the male love interest as the 'king of kid's stories in the grease pit with a chain on your hip' and having a wedding ring from a girl he would rather forget. This paints a picture of a rebel, someone who is not afraid to break the rules and push boundaries. They spend their afternoons dreaming up grand plans, which feel so real in their imaginative minds.
The second and final chorus repeats the plea to escape and references how the promises they make downgrade their dreams. It seems like they know that they need to break free from what society expects of them in order to achieve their goals. Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of restlessness and a desire for something more.

I love this song but i know you for the electronic music which was totally different. You made very different songs like (sunset lover, waterfall, presence, alone etc) That was the music which differentiate you from other music artists.

This song is so close to my heart. I used to listen to it every time I was about to meet this girl I love more than I'll ever be able to put into words. The sweetness, tenderness, beauty and innocence of this song sums up the bliss of those moments and feelings. I was just the happiest person on earth with her. She was everything.
