Memories of faces
Lost on me
I see you running
And I wonder how long 'til you
Find your feet
I think you know
I know you feel it too
All the pressure
In the moment
When you have to choose
Oh, you can bide your time
For the rest of your life
Keep your options open
So you don't have to decide
Are you waiting for excuses to materialize
Or is it fear of failure
Everyone changes
Workin' our way through these fallen leaves
While the branches are breaking
Can't help mistaking if I rest for the trees
I know there's no one
Bad decision
This just can't go on
Stumblin' blind
Oh, you can bide your time
For the rest of your life
Keep your options open
So you don't have to decide
Are you waiting for excuses to materialize
Or is it fear of failure
So you keep treading the same ground
Forgetting that you found
The faith you need
You say your future's in limbo
With your head
In the clouds
Don't look down
I am holding you up
With my feet
On the ground
We can make sense of the pictures, places,
Memories, faces that we lost on the way
Well, you can bide your time
For the rest of your life
Keep your options open
So you don't have to decide
Are you waiting for excuses to materialize
Well, you can bide your time
For the rest of your life
Keep your options open
So you don't have to decide
Are you waiting for excuses to materialize
Or is it fear of failure
Or is it fear of failure
The Basics' song "Fear of Failure" explores the fear, uncertainty, and pressure that come with making important decisions in life. The lyrics describe a person who is hesitant to commit or take risks, possibly due to a fear of failing or making a bad decision. The line "are you waiting for excuses to materialize, or is it fear of failure" suggests that this person might be using excuses to avoid making decisions that could potentially lead to failure.
The chorus repeats the phrase "you can bide your time for the rest of your life, keep your options open so you don't have to decide," emphasizing the idea that avoiding making decisions can ultimately lead to a stagnant and unfulfilling life. The bridge offers some hope and encouragement, with the singer reminding the person that they are not alone and that together, they can make sense of the past experiences that may have contributed to their fear.
Overall, "Fear of Failure" is a reflective and introspective song that offers a relatable and poignant message about taking risks and embracing change in life.

Recollections of people
Lost on me
I'm struggling to remember them clearly
I see you running
I see you striving forward
And I wonder how long 'til you
And I'm curious about how much time until you
Find your feet
Achieve stability in your life
I think you know
I believe you're aware
What I'm thinkin'
Of what I'm thinking
I know you feel it too
I know you're feeling the same pressure as I am
All the pressure
All the expectations and demands
In the moment
At this particular moment
When you have to choose
When you need to make a decision
Oh, you can bide your time
You can wait indefinitely
For the rest of your life
For the remainder of your existence on this planet
Keep your options open
Don't commit to anything
So you don't have to decide
So you can avoid making a choice
Are you waiting for excuses to materialize
Are you waiting for reasons to justify your inaction
Or is it fear of failure
Or are you frightened of adversity
Everyone changes
Everyone undergoes change
Workin' our way through these fallen leaves
Navigating through life's obstacles
While the branches are breaking
Even as difficulties arise
Can't help mistaking if I rest for the trees
I can't help but wonder if I'm getting sidetracked by minor issues
I know there's no one
I understand that no one's perfect
Bad decision
Immature behavior or a rash decision
This just can't go on
We can't continue like this
Stumblin' blind
Making mistakes without insight
So you keep treading the same ground
You keep repeating the same actions
Forgetting that you found
No longer remembering what you've already discovered
The faith you need
The confidence required
You say your future's in limbo
You think your destiny is uncertain
With your head
While you're daydreaming
In the clouds
Lost in thought
Don't look down
Don't become consumed by the present situation
I am holding you up
I am supporting you
With my feet
With a firm footing
On the ground
In reality
We can make sense of the pictures, places,
We can comprehend the significance of past events
Memories, faces that we lost on the way
Recollections of people and places we've left behind
Well, you can bide your time
You can postpone acting
Or is it fear of failure
But is it really due to being afraid of not succeeding

This song is the most accurate musical representation of my apprehensions and inhibitions in my professional and personal life (as much as I hate to admit it at times). An older song, but timeless in its theme. And the simplicity of the arrangement, with its little well-placed nuances here and there, strikes all the right places in my mind and heart every time.

Oh, this is lovely. Has a slight Crowded House feel at times to it as well, which is certainly a good thing.
