I remenber you
The Beatles Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You don't realize how much I need you
Love you all the time
And never leave you
Please come on back to me
I'm lonely as can be
I need you

Said you had a thing or two to tell me
How was I to know
You would upset me?
I didn't realize
As I looked in your eyes
You told me
Oh yes, you told me you don't want my lovin' anymore
That's when it hurt me and feeling like this
I just can't go on anymore

Please remember how I feel about you
I could never really live without you
So, come on back and see
Just what you mean to me
I need you
But when you told me, you don't want my lovin' anymore
That's when it hurt me and feeling like this
I just can't go on anymore

Please remember how I feel about you
I could never really live without you
So, come on back and see
Just what you mean to me
I need you

I need you
I need you

Overall Meaning

The Beatles' song "I Need You" is a melancholic plea from the lead singer to his lover to return to him. He confesses that he never realized how much he needed her until she left him lonely and pained. The song opens with a despairing tone as the singer declares his deep affection and longing for his love. The lyrics highlight the depth of his love for her, he promises to love her always and never leave her, and he begs her to return to him, as he can't bear to be alone.

The chorus expresses the pain he felt after his lover informed him that she no longer wanted him. At this moment, everything changed for the singer, and he becomes agitated and desperate. He longs for her to come back to him and reminds her of how much she means to him.

I just keep playing this over and over. I like the way Paul says "THE TRILLLL OF THEM ALL".

Love, Compassion and forgiveness

What a performance! I would give ANYTHING to be at the Cavern or Star-club in 61-62! John actually said "The world missed the best years of the Beatles era!"in 1973.

Brian Houlehan

I always loved John's "non-sense" refrains at the intervals of several of Paul's verses.

De verdad que siento un nudo en la garganta por semejante interpretación, sinceramente los Beatles nunca me dejan de sorprender. Que manera de ser genios. Los amo. Nunca nadie tendrá un nivel de talento en conjunto igualable siquiera

ridiculous comments..this is the beginning of the greatest band ever..worked their ticket..FANTASTIC

Dr. Smoove

Such covers (which among nascent rock groups must've been a rarity) certainly helped informed the Beatles' songwriting, which often employed similar chord changes (major to minor, etc.) and a masterful use of many other musical cliches. Hats off to the Beatles!

Dr. Smoove

I've always like this version. The Beatles restructured the song somewhat (switching the sequence of the A and B parts), sang their B part an octave higher than Ifield (though in the same key), and made the song a "beat" number (as they did with standards like "Red Sails in the Sunset"). It's a comic approach that's both a joke (ha, ha, we're playing tame pop numbers as rock and roll tunes) and a very good musical performance.

Where's the verses?
''I remember you-ooh
You're the one who made my dreams come true
A few kisses ago
I remember you-ooh
You're the one who said I love you, too
Yes, I do, didn'tcha know?''

MAGNETO

I don't know if they switched it around, it seems more like they omitted that first half of the verses altogether. But yes, I've always liked their version ever since I bought the Star Club album in the '70s. It was perfect for John to showcase his harmonica. The Beatles re-rocked many a standard back then, making it their own.

Archangel Music

@MAGNETO i dont think they omitted the first half of the verses at all, it's just this recording doesnt have the full performance of this song. its missing about a minute from the beginning. not the uploaders fault, the source tape didnt have the entire performance of this song.i know it sounds like they started playing it from the beginning, but they didnt.
