Go Away
The Beau Brummels Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Walking on water
Feel like I oughta
Since I borrow a book
That told about a man
Who did this thing

Well I didn't make it
You can't fake it
Wish you can take it
Believe it from me
It can't be done

So I went to see what they'd say
When I asked why it wasn't this way
They said, "Hey, hey... hey, hey..., go away."

Today is Sunday (ah...)
I wish it were Monday (ah...)
Tuesday is nice, but then (ah...)
Wednesday came (ah...)
And I was blue...
Thursday nice (ah...)
I think I said it, twice (ah...)
Friday I start to get some pay (ah...)
From those who

Now are the stars in the sky are your eyes
Are you anything other than nice...
You won't say, "Hey, hey... hey, hey..., go away."

Did you stutter to write a letter (ah...)
Than to get one from me (ah...)
From the one that you love (ah...)
I mean "Dear John" (ah...)
Well it may sound easy (ah...)
But I wish that you please be careful (ah...)
With your speakeasy ways around me (ah...)
I know you well

And you say this is really your song
Then tell me why do you play it all wrong
We are a-saying, "Hey, hey... hey, hey..., go away."
Why don't you go away
Go away

C'mon go away
Go away...

Overall Meaning

The Beau Brummels's song Go Away is about someone who wishes they could do extraordinary things like walking on water. They read a book about a person who could and wanted to try it themselves, but they failed. The lyrics suggest that the ability to walk on water is impossible and you can't fake it. When the person in the song asks for an explanation as to why they couldn't do it, they are met with rejection and told to go away. In the second half, the song shifts to a love song or a plea to someone who the singer is asking to go away. They mention Wednesday made them blue, and they start to see success in their work on Friday, but there is someone who won't go away no matter how nicely they ask. The lyrics suggest that the person they are addressing in the song is a "Dear John," meaning they want them to leave them alone. Overall, the song tells a story about someone who longs for the extraordinary and is met with rejection and later pleads with someone to leave them alone.

The people today are souless. Our world is dying inside. Great music like this shows the happiness in people.

Remember - only some (minority...?) of people are actually souless (sociopaths). A Brilliant man once said in essence: the problem is that many of their LEADERS are "Evil & Wicked"

Yes! "Pop" music refers to POPULAR music. Music doesn't have to be about politics, social injustice or any other cause. There are plenty of other ways to address these issues. The whole reason this music was popular was that it was just that....popular. It was "feel good" music in a time in which we needed it. JFK, RFK, MLK assassinations, Cuban Missile Crisis, Cold War were all things we as kids, were just trying to escape from for about 3 minutes at a time. We were trying to focus on enjoying life, first dates, high school dances and other things, in a time that was very dark. This music was medicine for our souls. We needed to "just be kids" for a few minutes at a time. @@jarichards99utube
