Hannah Levin's review of the Black Angels album, Passover, described them as "Walking in the shadows cast by Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized mastermind Jason Pierce" and compared them to The Warlocks and Black Mountain, also invoking "dirges" reminiscent of both The Velvet Underground and the 13th Floor Elevators. The band's icon is a stylized image of Nico.
In December 2007, the group announced on their blog that their second album would be released in Spring of 2008. In March 2008 a release date of May 13th was announced for their second album, Directions to See a Ghost. Their third album was "Phosphene Dream" released in 2010. This record is slowly starting to give Black Angels international recognition.

Grab As Much
The Black Angels Lyrics

Please, please, woman, I'll be home at two
I drip, drip bourbon so top of your chest, aha
I tiptoe, honey, I′m on top of the room, aha
When we make love
You know I'm leaving
When we make love
Now, I′m craving
Everything I see
I′ve waited years for you
(Count lucky stars)
Never really hurts me
(Count lucky stars)
I tiptoe in the world I'm searching
I′ll breathe fire into your mind
Dope fiends, that's what we are
Dope fiends, count lucky stars
Oh, she did it
Oh, she did it
Now I′m thinking
There's no use for me
Heaven is pouring and I′m a child
Grabbing as much as I can
I'll make friends with royalty
Convince them to give to me
Dope fiends, that's what we are
Dope fiends, count lucky stars
Oh, she did it
Oh, she did it
Now you′re saying
There′s no use for me
Dope fiends, that's what you are
Dope fiends, that′s what we are
Dope fiends, that's what you are
The lyrics of The Black Angels's song Grab As Much suggest a scene of a man who is possibly a drug addict with a past, telling his lover that he will be back home at two in the morning. He is immersed in alcohol and is probably struggling with his addiction. The man becomes sensual and describes how he tiptoes into his lover's room and drips bourbon on her chest. They make love, but the man knows he will leave after. He seems to be searching for something that he has been waiting for years. However, he also feels that there is no use for him anymore.
The chorus talks about dope fiends and counting lucky stars. The man seems to acknowledge the fact that he is probably addicted to drugs, as he calls himself and his lover dope fiends. Counting lucky stars could mean that despite the situation, they still have hope for a better future. The man is lusting for more and is determined to grab as much as he can from life. He talks about making friends with royalty and convincing them to give him more.
The overall interpretation of the song is that it tells the story of a person who has given up on life and is now addicted to drugs. He is living in constant pain and agony, but he is still hopeful for a better future.
