“The Black Cat Bone”, TBCB’s NEW ALBUM-KOMA
TBCB’s return to the Colombian national rock scene began in November 2009 with the recording sessions for their second album with German Villacorta as producer alongside Juan David Bernal. The four musicians of TBCB Mauricio Leguízamo, Juan David Bernal, Luis Fernando Garcia and Andres Garzón began the final phase of a sabbatical year in which the band found its musical essence. These were months of intense creativity, reflection and a rest from the great moment where, between 2005 and 2008, the band was on top of the national rock scene.
This pause, which meant a redirection in the band’s musical concept, found a quick echo in the genius of Germán Villacorta, Peruvian producer and engineer based in Los Angeles, whose credits range from Ozzy Osbourne, Stone Temple Pilots and Rolling Stones among others, in diverse roles as recording and mixing engineer. Villacorta understood the meaning of what TBCB wanted resulting in one of the best records in the history of Colombian rock. In February 2010, the single “Let it die” opened way to KOMA, the band’s second studio album.

The Black Cat Bone Lyrics

That's not a problem for your self-esteem, you're cool.
You know just how to bring me down.
No matter what, you'll come around.
So beat me up or shoot me down,
With all the others, tie me down.
You underestimate the mind is always free.
No matter how you push or what you do to me.
So beat me up or shoot me down,
With all the others, tie me down.
You put me in chains and threw me down to lonely grounds, grounds, down, down. Lonely grounds down.
You tie me down, you put me in a hole, you want to break me, but you can't, no matter what you do, you cannot shut my mind; I'm free and all these chains are nothing, they will break and rust and turn to dust in you!
In the song Chains by The Black Cat Bone, the lyrics speak to the idea of being tied down by someone else's power and control. The opening line, "You'll find a way to get to me, I am your tool" suggests that the singer is being manipulated and used to achieve someone else's goals. However, the singer reveals that this is not a problem for their self-esteem, they are "cool". This could indicate that the singer is aware of their own strength and ability to overcome the challenges presented to them.
The second verse reveals the extent of the power dynamic at play, with the other person knowing just how to bring the singer down. However, the singer is confident that their mind is always free, and that no matter how they are pushed or what is done to them, they will not be defeated. The chorus reinforces this message, with the singer stating that they cannot be broken, no matter how hard they are beaten or tied down.
The final verse sees the singer being physically restrained, with chains holding them down to lonely grounds. Despite this, they remain positive and undeterred, saying that the chains are nothing and will eventually break and rust away. The overall message of the song is one of resilience in the face of adversity and the power of the human spirit to remain free, even when physically or mentally constrained.
