Smash My Heart
The Black Sheep Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I feel the need to cry it out:
No one’s cute like you
No-good stupid boy
I feel like I will faint
I don’t know what to do, what to say, what to be
When you’re coming close to me
What to be and what I am
I ask myself if you feel lonely at all
‘Cause everyone would fall at your feet:
Sarah, Jessy, Ashley, Sandra, Nanny, Mary, Lucy, Katie
However they’re called…
Can’t you see that I’m in pain?
I don’t know...
Why I feel so sad?
All these girls would fall at your feet:
Sarah, Jessy, Ashley, Sandra, Nanny, Mary, Lucy, Katie
Julie, Auri, Trishy, Joey, Paris, Chrisy, blablabla
However they’re called
I don’t know what to do, what to say
When you’re coming close to me
I don’t know...
The lyrics to "Smash My Heart" by The Black Sheep convey a sense of unrequited love and heartbreak. The song's narrator is struggling with the fact that they have intense feelings for someone who seemingly doesn't reciprocate those emotions. The chorus, "I don't know what to do, what to say, what to be, when you're coming close to me," highlights this uncertainty and fear. The singer is struggling to find their place in this person's life and simply wants to know why they make them feel so sad.
The first verse captures the singer's admiration for this person, stating that "no one's cute like you" and then abruptly shifts to a feeling of frustration with this person, calling them a "no-good stupid boy." This quick change in tone represents the singer's internal struggle of trying to reconcile their feelings. The second verse delves deeper into the singer's jealousy, naming a list of girls that this person seems to have all wrapped around their finger.
Overall, the lyrics to "Smash My Heart" are a vulnerable and honest portrayal of unrequited love. The uncertain and frustrated tone of the song's narrator is relatable to anyone who has experienced the sting of rejection or unreturned affection.
