Jingle Bells
The Brian Setzer Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a '57 Chevrolet
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle, jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

Dashing through the snow
(He's dashing)
In a one horse open sleigh
(He's dashing)
O'er them fields we go
(He's dashing)
Laughing all the way
(Now he's laughing)
Bells on bob tails ring
Making them spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight

Jingle bells,
Jingle, jingle, jingle, jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a '57 Chevrolet
Jingle bells,
Jingle, jingle, jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
O'er them fields we go
Laughing, laughing, laughing, laughing,
Bells on bob tails ring
Making them spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight

Jingle bells,
Jingle, jingle, jingle, jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a '57 Chevrolet
Jingle bells,
Jingle, jingle, jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Brian Setzer Orchestra's version of Jingle Bells are a unique combination of the traditional Christmas song and 1950s rockabilly music. Setzer replaces the original melody of Jingle Bells with his own upbeat, guitar-driven riff and adds a new verse about riding in a '57 Chevrolet, which hearkens back to the era of classic cars and the rise of rock and roll. However, he still keeps some of the traditional lyrics, like "Dashing through the snow" and "Bells on bob tails ring," and merges them seamlessly with his updated version of the song.

The inclusion of the '57 Chevrolet is a nod to Setzer's own love of classic cars, and the image of riding in a sleek vintage automobile adds a sense of adventure and excitement to the song. The lyrics also emphasize the joy of Christmas and the holiday season, with the repetition of "Jingle all the way" and "Laughing all the way" evoking the spirit of merriment and the joy of spending time with loved ones. The song's upbeat tempo, driving guitar riffs, and catchy lyrics have made it a beloved Christmas classic that appeals to fans of both traditional holiday music and rock and roll.

First time i heard this was in the Madagascar movie when i was a kid, the dvd bonus section with the extra short about the xmas mission with the penguins. I was so happy when i finally found Brian's version. This totally introduced me into his Stray Cats project and the whole rockabilly genre. Their live show "Rumble In Brighton" is smth that i play at least few times a year. Brian is a brilliant musician and his playing is something that u don't hear every day these days. They absolutely fucking rock.
